Trevor Noah jokes about Buckingham Palace at the opening of the 2021 Grammy Awards.

For the second consecutive Sunday night, I was glued to CBS, and this time instead of Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Oprah Winfrey having an earth-shattering conversation, the 2021 Grammy Awards (opens in new tab) was the big event, but that shocking debate (opens in new tab opens in a new tab) is clearly still on their minds. The opening monologue took place not in the usual packed Staples Center, but on a nearby outdoor stage in front of a surprisingly sparse crowd, but host Trevor Noah was quick to throw in a joke about the aftermath of last week's bomb interview.

Walking from the tent-covered stage to introduce the first live performer of the night, Noah said the famous attendees in the first place would have been impatient for the show to begin. He said, "There is more tension in that tent than in a family reunion at Buckingham Palace." Frankly, he has a point. By most reports, Buckingham Palace is less than thrilled (opens in new tab) with the decision to expose what was described as the truly isolated and even at times racist behavior (opens in new tab) that Meghan and Harry experienced before they stepped down as senior royals last year.

Just minutes later, after Harry Styles opened the evening's spectacular performance with a spectacular rendition of "Watermelon Sugar," Noah took another jab at the UK, saying that "someone so handsome is from the same background as Boris Johnson" (understandable I conveyed my (understandable) shock.
