(Opens in a new tab) The show follows Alex Guzman, played by Manolo Cardona of "Narcos," as he is wrongly convicted for the death of his sister Sara as a teenager. When he is finally released after 18 years in prison, he gets answers about Sara's death and sets out to take revenge on the powerful Lascano family, who he believes are responsible for her death. Through Alex's investigation and flashbacks to the summer of Sarah's murder (opens in new tab), we learn that various members of the Lazcano family had reason to kill Sarah, and over the course of 10 episodes, Alex follows them one by one. As he becomes entangled with the Lazcano family throughout the series, both Alex and the viewer are left with more questions than answers.

The season ends with a typical Netflix cliffhanger, spoiling the ending of "Who Killed Sara?" season 1, but not who actually killed Sara. Fortunately, Netflix has already announced that the second season will be released soon, namely on May 19 of this year. Season 2 will feature a new cast and possibly a new suspect for Alex to investigate. Here is what we know so far about the second season of "Who Killed Sarah?

Netflix announced on March 29, five days after the show's release, that season 2 of Who Killed Sarah will premiere on May 19, 2021. The first season was a huge hit, reaching #1 on Netflix's Top 10 within days of its release.

Alex (Cardona) and Sara Guzman (Simena Lamadrid), Lascano patriarch Cesar (Ginés García Millán), patriarch Mariana (Claudia Ramírez), Lascano children Elisa (Carolina Miranda), Jose Maria aka Chema (Eugenio Silla ), Rodolfo (Alejandro Nones), and most of the main cast members will be returning. Additional cast members will also reappear, with the exception of those who died in Season 1.

Joining the cast for season 2 will be Daniel Giménez Cacho, Matías Novoa, and Antonio de la Vega, according to Netflix.

At the end of Season 1, it appears that the suspects in Sara's death have been narrowed down to one: Mariana Lascano has learned that Sara is pregnant with her husband Cesar's child. Mariana encouraged Sara to try parasailing and ordered her surrogate son/lucky, Elroy, to rig a parachute so that Sara would be the first to parasail. Elroy rigs the parachute so that Sarah will be the first to use it. It is unclear what his point was, but the telenovela has a firm rule that if you don't show a key moment on screen, you don't know if it actually happened.

While Season 1 explored the world of the Lazcano family and the circumstances surrounding Sarah's death, the trailer for Season 2 seems to focus on Sarah herself and the secrets she hid before her death. In the final episode of Season 1, Alex found Sarah's diary, in which she wrote that she was contemplating suicide. After reading the diary, he calls his girlfriend, Eliza Lazcano, and insists that they were all wrong. He also hints that the tampered parachute, which he has believed all season was responsible for Sarah's death, may not have actually killed her.

It's definitely a development that matches the show's telenovela tendencies: wealthy families, passionate sex, and all the flirtation. The actress playing Sarah has an important role in the trailer, which may mean that Sarah, who has only appeared in flashbacks this season, will become part of the main storyline. In addition, it will give Alex a whole new revenge goal.

If the "Sarah is alive" theory ends up being true, it will raise another big question: what happened to Sarah's baby" The baby's father being revealed as Cesar is, after all, Mariana's motivation. Some fans believe that if Sara survives, her baby could be Bruno, the troubled son of Rodolfo's wife Sofia. If this is true, it would explain why Cesar treats Bruno more like a son than a grandson-in-law. It would also mean that there would be another heir to Lazcano, putting Bruno at odds with his adoptive father Rodolfo. Whether or not Bruno is Cesar's new successor, one hopes that the child will live strong against Cesar's attempts to "raise" him or turn him into a mini Cesar.

Sadly, the cast and crew of "Who Killed Sarah" have not said much about a possible second season. They have given a limited number of interviews, most of which took place before the season one premiere. Cardona told the website Geek Vibes Nation that he is proud to be on a show that brings a new type of storytelling to Latin America.

"We are not afraid to create this kind of genre, the mystery thriller, that we are used to seeing in the US, in the UK and in Europe. As storytellers, we are not afraid to dive into shows that would be unfamiliar to us in Latin America. Now we have a story that changes that. This is a series of love from Mexico to the world," Cardona said.
