Explaining the Conclusion of "Virgin River" Season 3

Virgin River Season 3 Spoilers. The last episode of Virgin River was a cliffhanger Viking. (opens in new tab)We had just barely recovered from Lily's death, Hope is in critical condition, Preacher is in God knows where, Brady is behind bars, and Jack has three new children (opens in new tab)and still doesn't know who shot him. (opens in new tab)Virgin River (opens in new tab)We need to talk about the ending of season 3 (opens in new tab), guys. [| you can do it so you can really come across that you, in fact my partner and i promise, anyone can quickly forget about just how seemingly exactly {} of these seemingly neglected people. Preacher). Join me as we delve deeper into the final episode of Season 3.

Like I said, the pregnancy news wasn't exactly unexpected, but the twist certainly was. In the final moments of the last episode, Mel and Jack are watching a California sunrise (technically a Vancouver sunrise (opens in new tab)). 'You were brave enough to open up to me, and for that I will be forever grateful,' Jack says. 'There's something I've been meaning to ask you. He gets down on one knee and reaches for his ring.

Mel stops him. I have something to tell you," she says. I'm pregnant."

"This is a good thing," says a shell-shocked Jack. 'This is a good thing. We're having a baby. It's great news. No matter what happens, we'll get through it."

"Jack," says Mel, "I don't know if you're the father."

And then the end credits. In other words, Mel used a frozen embryo from her attempted pregnancy with her late husband Mark. It's pretty clear when that happened: when Mel must have undergone in vitro fertilization. Needless to say, even if they had not broken up, Jack was obviously horrified when Mel said she wanted a baby.

So not only is Jack immersed in an ugly custody battle, but his girlfriend (and potential fiancée) has a child she may have had with her late husband. That means he will have three children, but if Todd is involved, he will never see two of them, and the third may be fathered by the girlfriend's late husband. That's, uh, that's a lot.

Preacher, also known as the only thing keeping Christopher away from Paige's menacing ex-husband Wes and Wes' twin brother Vince, is lured into the woods under false pretenses by Paige's old friend. On the way, Paige's old friend buys Preacher a soda. Preacher collapses as soon as he wanders into the woods, and his "friend," who obviously brought him to the woods for an apparently benign reason, takes his cell phone and runs off.

As you may have guessed, this is the final chapter in Wes's extended battle. Later in the episode, Connie and Christopher return to Preacher's house and are surprised to find Preacher not home. He is sitting on the couch in the dark, presumably waiting to kidnap Christopher. [As a viewer, I'm finally getting familiar with Brady. In Season 3, we saw a softer side of him, falling in love with Bree, and even beginning to believe that he would never shoot Jack (although Jack strongly believes he did). But when Brady loses his alibi, a search warrant is served on the police for his former boss, evil drug lord Calvin, and in the process they find the exact same gun that was used to shoot Jack.

"You planted it. It's not mine," Brady exclaims. It's not my gun. I was set up. "But Brady is arrested, and Bree watches him with tears in her eyes.

As if surviving the hurricane wasn't traumatic enough, Hope is rushed to the hospital after a car accident on her way back to Virgin River. She suffers brain damage, develops a fever at the end of the episode, and may have an infection. Basically, things are not looking good for Hope. [In this scene, Muriel is a vulture herself, waiting for Hope to die so she can attack her husband/ex-husband/future husband/doc.

The good news: Hope will probably - probably - pull through. Her absence in Season 3 outside of video calls was due to COVID-19 limitations, and hopefully that won't be an issue in Season 4. Showrunner Sue Tenney (open in new tab) says the show dotes on Hope and wants to keep her around.

But speaking of Doc.

A kind 19-year-old from Seattle shows up to stay at a bed and breakfast in town. 'I'm looking for my grandfather,' he says. 'I'm Dr. Vernon Mullins.

In a promotional interview for Season 3, the cast and crew offered more answers. (opens in new tab) Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Tenney said: (opens in new tab) "Everything is going to be complicated. The father of the grandson who shows up, the woman with whom he has a child, all of these things are going to be dealt with in the coming seasons." And Doc himself, or Tim Matheson, who plays him, told EW in a separate interview (opens in new tab): "He wasn't really a father, so to have a grandchild now - that's pretty radical.

Seemingly out of the blue, Ricky goes to a Marine Corps career day and takes a test to see if he is eligible to enlist. Ricky had to tell Lizzie about his plans, but she is devastated that he didn't tell her about enlisting. Lizzie is determined to get back together with her ex-boyfriend, who has been hanging around Virgin River for half the season: will Ricky and Lizzie get back together?" and "Will Lizzie return to LA with her droll new boyfriend and will he enlist?"

The Marine Corps twist "seems impulsive, but it's not," Tenney told TV Line. 'It's something he's wanted since he was 13. In the book, Ricky is that kind of character. For Ricky, it came to a head when he met Jack and Preacher. He always liked the military, but he wants to be Jack. He wants to be a hero."

Whew. I see. I don't know about you, but I can't wait another year for the answer to all this.
