Explaining the Conclusion of "The Outer Banks" Season 2

Outer Banks Season 2 Spoilers. The final episode of "The Outer Banks" (open in new tab) was a thrilling conclusion to a very suspenseful season. The mortally wounded Pogue and his team had to recover a $500 million treasure from the Cameron family and avoid the crew of a murderous tanker ship. The robbery did not go the way the Porgs wanted (as it often does), and they were left stranded on a random island, never to learn a crucial fact that would change their lives forever. We must speak now about that crucial fact.

The only thing we knew going into the finale was that all of the Pogues would probably make it out alive (the show proved that killing a Pogue is really hard). Now that we know we made it out alive, broke, and stranded, we can break down the end of this epic season. Stay tuned for a deep dive into the Season 2 finale.

It was clear from Cleo's badassery and his sudden closeness to Sara that the young man from Nassau would show up again on the Outer Banks. Luckily, after his partner Terrence disappeared in the Bahamas, Cleo ended up working on a tanker that the Cameron family was using to escape to a private island with a cross in Santo Domingo. After quarreling with Pogue and trying to expose him as a stowaway, she reunites with John B. and hears that her daughter Sarah is in trouble on the ship. Thus, Pogue has a new ally.

Cleo plays a major role in this episode, keeping the ship's crew away from Pogue and helping him get the cross. When all goes wrong, she abandons the ship with Pogue; after the six teens wash up on a deserted island, Cleo is forced by Pope to join the Porg squad. It's a sweet moment that hints that Pope and Cleo may be the show's latest romance now that Kiara has turned to Team JJ.

The finale begins with a big surprise explanation: the Ward who faked his death in the ship explosion in episode 6 is alive. He used a very uncomplicated trick and escaped the explosion with the scuba gear he had hidden before the real explosion. From now on, let's apply the rules of Game of Thrones to the Outer Banks: no one is dead until you see a dead body.

Once this revelation is made, Sarah shudders and spends most of the episode fighting her father and trying to escape from the boat to get to John B. The protracted fight intensifies and climaxes with Ward realizing that his daughter has gone full Pogue and attempts to kill her parents. Luckily John B. saves Sarah and deals Ward a severe blow, but he decides to show mercy and not kill the show's Big Bad.

As for the cross, like the sunken treasure from the previous season, Pogue loses the Santo Domingo cross to Cameron. He connects the cross to a crane and lines it up on the lifeboat, which works, but he loses the chance to load the cross while fighting off the crew and Rafe. Pope decides to drop the crucifix overboard instead of giving the heirloom to anyone. Unfortunately, Rafe becomes super-strong with adrenaline, grabs the rope, clings to the cross, and with the help of the crew, pulls the cross back to the ship. [While Pogue escapes from the ship, the Camerons get the cross and the sunken gold. While Pogue escapes from the ship, the Camerons get the cross and the sunken gold, and Pogue escapes from the ship. Before the finale is over, Rafe visits his injured father and promises to bring Sarah back.

After his escape, Pogue washes up on a suitable island with no treasure (but one member). After a bit of lamenting over the sorry situation, John B. rouses the group by saying that they have everything they need: waves and the theoretical ability to procure food; JJ declares, "Let's name this place Pogelandia," and the group couples. There are shots of the group chatting around the fire (yay, survival).

Of course, not all is well on the Outer Banks. Key's mother puts up posters and the police hold a press conference. The Pogues can't stay on a deserted island forever, so they hope to return to the OBX if there is another season. After all, there are things they need to know. [It's the scene where Limbly, the new villain of season two, arrives at the Barbados house. She is summoned there with a letter about the shroud she has been looking for all season and is met by a man who is described as "half dead for a long time." When she finds the man, he says he knows where the shroud is and will help her on one condition. That man is Big John Routledge.

The reappearance of John B.'s father shakes up the entire series. Since it all started with John B. on a treasure hunt with the hope of avenging his father's death, he would probably be upset to learn that his dead father is actually alive. in an interview with Entertainment Weekly (opens in new tab), creators Shannon Burke and Josh Pate say that Big John's appearance will be "an important and perhaps backbone" of the yet-to-be-announced third season.

"John B's relationship with his father is a big theme, his father comes back and they eventually reunite, and John B has to reconcile the ideal image of his dead father with the reality of his living father. There's a lot of father-son themes," Burke said.

So basically, we need an update now, Netflix, we can't provide the treasure, but we can provide the heart.
