Sex Education" Season 3: Everything We Know

As summer draws to a close and a new year of wild adventures at Moondale Secondary begins, Netflix's hit "Sex Education" returns this month as Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma McKee), Eric (Nuchi Gatwa) and company's final year It will return to follow them. Season 3 of "Sex Education" will premiere on Netflix on September 17, 2021.

All eight episodes of the third season of "Sex Education" will be available on Netflix on September 17. The show's production schedule was derailed by the pandemic, but the cast kept us updated on their official Instagram (opens in new tab) during the lockdown. Filming began last September in the UK.

On July 19, Netflix dropped the "official ad," a fictional advertisement for Moondale. All of our favorites (except Eric) appear in the clip, along with new vice principal Hope Haddon, played by "Girls" actress Jemima Kirke, praising the school. The ad attempts to sell Moondale as a dreamy school, but there are hints of discord, with male student Jackson (Kedar Williams-Sterling) reading from a script and Maeve looking uncomfortable throughout the clip.

The official trailer for the program, released on September 7, shows the entire redesign of the school by head teacher Haddon. Students line up in single file in gray uniforms and receive abstinence-based sex education, while teachers shout, "Sex will ruin your life." Otis and Maeve may be bringing the school back to sex positivity, but the show's "will-they-won't-they" couple is still tense.

The show ended with a ton of updates for the Moondale kids. A chlamydia outbreak has caused a major PR problem at the school, leading to the ouster of the head teacher, Groff. Adam, a former bully, publicly confessed his love for Eric. Jean forgave Otis for being a rogue sex therapist, but discovered that her ex-lover Jacob was pregnant. Maeve reports her drug-addicted mother to social services. After breaking up with Ola and having a one-night stand with Queen Bee Ruby, Otis tries to confess his love to Maeve, but is interrupted by Maeve's new friend Isaac.

Season 3 begins with a time jump, jumping over the summer and starting with a new school year. Otis has casual sex and Eric begins a relationship with Adam. Maeve is dating Isak, but he has yet to tell her that he deleted Otis's confessional voicemail, and she and Otis have not kept in touch. And Jean is very, very pregnant and has not yet told Jacob.

The children also arrive at the newly dubbed "sex school," Moondale. The new vice principal is Hope Haddon, a high-achieving former student who wants to restore the school to its former glory. Unfortunately, that means erasing all hints of sex, individuality, and fun at the school, and the official photos show the children in their new uniforms.

The cast and crew have not revealed many details about the new season ahead of the premiere, but filming apparently went as effortlessly as in previous seasons, despite the pandemic. Asa Butterfield told ELLE (opens in new tab), "I think one of the reasons [the show] is doing so well is that everyone is having fun. As actors, having the freedom to play with words, to experiment, to be a little goofy, it's a magic moment that you can't really put in a script. And I think that really elevates the show."

The extensive cast will all return for Season 3, continuing the show's tradition of smoothly juggling multiple storylines. Among the major new cast members this season is "Girls" actress Jemima Kirke, who will play new vice principal Hope Haddon, who has proven to be a bit authoritarian in her control of the school.

Recording artist Dua Saleh will also join the show as Cal, a non-binary student who befriends Jackson. Other cast members include Harry Potter alum Jason Isaacs as Mr. Groff's successful brother and Resident Evil actress Indra Ove as Elsie's new foster mother.
