Read More"Sex Education" Season 3 Spoilers Ahead. This season of "Sex Education" was, in a small way, a battle for self-preservation for each of our favorite characters and for the sex-positive philosophy of the entire Moondale Secondary. As in reality, the results were neither entirely good nor entirely bad, leaving nearly every relationship on the show in limbo as children and adults alike struggled to find themselves. It also left fans wondering whether there would be a fourth season (open in new tab) and whether we would finally see Otis and Maeve ride off into the sunset (or maybe Otis and Ruby (open in new tab))
While we wait, more details on the season 3 finale (opens in new tab) and a possible situation going into season 4.
Eric and Adam did not fully discuss after Eric confessed to kissing him in Nigeria. Eric also confided in Otis about the kiss, saying he felt "free."
When the two meet, Adam tells Eric that he can get over the "stupid kiss" and wants to make it work. But Eric tells him it wasn't just a stupid kiss. He feels bad about hurting Adam, but he can't take it back now. He also says that Nigeria's kiss felt easy: "I'm ready to fly and you're just learning to walk. I've worked so hard to find myself and now I don't know who I am anymore."
With that, Eric breaks up with Adam and then puts on full makeup and wedding attire in the name of self-care. By the end of the episode, Adam has also begun to find himself. He enters a dog show for the first time, cheered on by his mom Maureen and Miss Sands, and receives a special award for his madam's stunning debut. He also finally tells Mama that Eric was her boyfriend.
At the beginning of the episode, Gene is in surgery for bleeding and Otis, Eric, Ora, and Jacob are staying at the hospital. It is not yet known if Gene will recover, but the blended family is able to see their baby girl. Jacob and Otis also discuss in depth what will happen if Gene does not recover, and Jacob tells Otis that he is not going anywhere either way.
Eventually, Jean makes it through the surgery. When she comes down from her medications, she makes up with Otis and Ora. She and Otis also finally have an honest conversation about their therapy experience and how much they need each other. Otis confides in her about Maeve at the end of their sweet mother-son moment.
Of course, that was before the big bomb dropped. Shortly after Otis leaves, Jean opens the paternity test results for Joy. We don't see the actual results, but from what Gene quietly utters, "Oh shoot," Jacob is not the father of her child. The rant is the last we see of Gene's rant about the possibility that he is the father of Otis (a man he hooked up with at random).
Maeve stayed at Anna's house after returning her sister Ellie to her foster mother. Over morning tea, Anna asks Maeve if she wants to move in, and Maeve says yes, partly because she and Anna have bonded over Ellie's disappearance. She also makes up with Isak, whom she caught moving out of the trailer, and with her mother, who allowed her to sneak onto the school grounds to give her money to study abroad and stay with Anna.
The only thing preventing her from traveling to the US is her relationship with Otis. Although the show's OTP is separate for all episodes, the two sweetly keep in touch via email, and Maeve wants to stay in Moondale to pursue the relationship. Luckily, Amy is there at the last minute to tell her that she is ridiculous and won't let her skip an opportunity for a friend's boy.
In the episode's final scene, Maeve says goodbye to Otis." When I come back, you'll have to see where we are," she tells him, to which he replies that he is proud of her. Otis asked, and Maeve replied, "See you later." Then she gets on the bus and leaves Moondale.
The battle for Moondale's individuality ended in the form of closure. When the children returned to school after the Open Day rebellion, Headmistress Hope was ghosted and all her signs and straight line stickers had been removed. The school's bureaucrat, Mark, gathered all the upperclassmen and told them that the school's last investor had pulled out and was selling Moodale Secondary to a developer due to a lack of funds.
All the kids had to find a new school to finish their last year, which is unfortunate, but they will not leave feeling sad. When Jackson, Cal, and Viv are about to go down that road, their OG teacher, Mr. Sands, tells them, "I'm sorry, but I'm not going to leave. So the best story of the season (except for Hope and Otis' brief debriefing) ends with a glimmer of hope. [Amy finally breaks up with Steve after a sweet talk with Adam's mother Maureen. Lily reacquaints herself with her alien side and makes up with Ora. Jackson and Cal decide to stay friends, and Jackson's mother (played by Emmy Award winner (open in new tab) Hannah Wadham) comes into play. Cal teaches his gender-unknown friend how to safely bind her breasts. Viv's super-hot boyfriend, Eugene, comes to town and we find out why she dresses up as Bridgerton. And Maureen and her former vice principal Michael don't get back together.
As for a possible (dare we say necessary) fourth season, creator Laurie Nunn told Glamour (open in new tab) that they are already thinking about some story details, including Joy's paternity and whether Hope will return. 'I'm starting to think about a series four, but obviously I won't know if that will become a reality until series three airs and people respond. I always hope that I'll have more opportunities to continue writing these characters.
