There aren't many heroes in Netflix's hit K-drama Squid Game. This thrilling series follows a few financially ruined people who put themselves in a deadly game for a chance to win a literal windfall, a grand prize (opens in new tab) worth $38 million. The show's characters (opens in new tab) are neither good nor bad, selfless nor selfish, and mostly exist in a gray area. However, fans have come to care deeply about several of the main cast members, especially Kang Saebyeok, a defector also known as 067, who needs money to reunite his family.

Saebyeok is played by top model Jung Ho-young in her first film role. Her intense and seductive performance will hopefully be the catalyst for the show's breakthrough and take the Korean entertainment industry (opens in new tab) by storm. In the meantime, here is everything we know about this rising star.

Chung was born in June 1994 in Seoul, South Korea, and began modeling at age 16; in 2013, she was runner-up on season 4 of the reality show "Korea's Next Top Model"; in 2016, she made her international modeling (open in new tab) debut as an exclusive model for Louis Vuitton (open in new tab) She made her debut as an exclusive model for Louis Vuitton (open new tab). In an interview with W Korea translated by NME (opens in new tab), she revealed that she was at New York Fashion Week when she was asked to send a video of her audition for Squid Game.

"I remember reading the script all the time, except when I was eating. When I sent the video, the director contacted me to see me in person. So I dropped everything and flew right over."

She also recalls her reaction when she learned that she had been cast.

"When I heard from the CEO that I was going to be in the show, the first thing I said was, 'Why? ' I was very happy when I heard the news, but a greater fear seemed to take over. [Thank you, but can I do it?

Chung also told W Korea how he prepared for the role of Squid Game, a refugee from North Korea. 'I watched a lot of documentaries about defectors. I also practiced speaking in a North Korean accent with my teacher and studied a lot."

She continued. 'Most of all, I think I was able to accept [the character] without any major difficulties because I'm a lot like Saebyeok... In 2016, I left Korea to pursue my modeling career abroad and spent a lot of time alone... I was very excited to be able to work in a North Korean accent.' At that time, the emotion I felt the most was "loneliness." ...... That feeling of loneliness while trying to live patiently is not so different"

Although they do not know when they met, John and Jenny often support each other and share goofy selfies on social media. In a clip from a variety show with the "Squid Game" cast (open in new tab), Lee Jung Jae revealed that Jenny visited the set and even offered Jung coffee to support him. Lee Jung-jae also checked out the group's Netflix documentary "BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky" and became a fan.

Chung and Lee first went public with their relationship in 2016 (opens in new tab).The 36-year-old actor is best known for his role as Ryu Dong-ryong in the K-drama "Answer Me 1988" (opens in new tab), but has also appeared in the films (opens in new tab) "The Handmaid" (2016) and Extreme Job (2019).
