Who is "you" Tachi Gabriel?

Season 3 of Netflix's hit show "You" was released three days ago. The wild new season (opens in a new tab) follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) as he lives his life as a father and his marriage to his wife Love (Victoria Pedretti) in the claustrophobic suburb of Madre Linda. Though he tries to make it work with Love, he finds himself drawn to his new boss at the library, single mother Marienne, played by Tati Gabriel.

The Bay Area native is a familiar face to some Netflix fans, having played the sympathetic mean girl Prudence in "The Adventures of Sabrina." And this time around, she brings the same nuance to Marienne, the smart, no-nonsense mother who doesn't easily fall for Joe's tricks. Here's everything we know about this rising star.

Gabrielle was born in San Francisco in January 1996 to an African-American father and a Korean-American mother; she made her debut as a department store model at age 3. She told Wonderland magazine that she credits her mother for her early work,

and that her mother was "a great help to me."

"My mother volunteered to let me perform in the Macy's and Nordstrom fashion shows at the Westfield Center in San Francisco. My mother remembers me freezing in the middle of my first runway run. I was a shy, but quirky kid who always had a fire in my heart. I feel that fire is the source of my confidence"

.

According to her official bio (open in new tab), Gabrielle fell in love with acting as a child when she played Lemony Snicket in a series of unfortunate events on stage; as a teenager, she studied in the theater program at Oakland High School for the Arts in the Bay Area, where directed several shows and performed in theater festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

She moved to Atlanta for college, where she studied theater and French at Spelman College.

Gabrielle began her professional acting career with a short film and a guest appearance on Disney's K.C. Undercover. She then broke out in two teen fantasy shows: the CW's "The 100" and Netflix's "The Adventures of Sabrina," where her fun and nuanced performance as CAOS's resident mean girl and head witch in charge, Prudence Knight, won her many fans.

"All of my previous roles have been fantasy, so this was my first time playing a 'real' person," Gabrielle told ELLE (opens in new tab) about her role in You. I wanted to make sure that Marienne was grounded and, excuse my French, I wanted to separate myself from the bitchiness of Prudence (the character she plays in "The Adventures of Sabrina").

In an interview with CR Fashion Book (opens in new tab), Gabrielle described her style as "very tomboyish" and revealed that she loves vintage clothing. She also name-checked two musicians as her ultimate fashion inspirations.

"I like both old school and new school. In terms of old school, Left Eye (Lisa Lopez) from TLC is crazy, sexy, cool, tomboyish, and feminine."

"In this day and age, Rihanna (open in new tab) is a huge inspiration to me. She has a very eccentric and eclectic way of dressing, and she's very expressive in a 'this is me' way. Just by looking at her, you can understand her personality, and that's something I try to do with my fashion sense."

One of the Bay Area native's longtime friends is "CRZY" rapper and singer-songwriter Kehlani. The glamorous duo were also classmates, and Kelani writes that they have been close since the seventh grade.

In an interview with Variety (opens in new tab), Gabrielle revealed that she was a "huge fan" of the series before she was cast. She also spoke about building her own backstory for Marienne's character outside of her interactions with Joe, including her history with addiction.

"I definitely had to sketch it out myself. I had the opportunity to speak with a mother who had been in a situation like Marienne's. So I wanted to know what the inner workings of it were really like so that I could convey to Marienne the depth and burden of it," she said. [She's] a badass, a badass mother fighting for her child and at the same time looking for healing. To represent that, I needed to get a clear picture of who she is when she's not in the library," she added.

Gabrielle spoke with TheWrap (opens in new tab) about her mental health past. While being in the spotlight was a "beautiful experience," she said, it was also "very painful" for her.

"I have a history of anxiety and depression. At a time when I am still young and trying to establish my identity and understand who I am, being subjected to so many stares can be overwhelming and unsettling. I try to be myself as much as I can"

.

She also said the industry still has a long way to go in terms of Asian representation in Hollywood. It's great that the whole world was excited and excited about [Crazy Rich Asians], but it doesn't have to be that way. I mean, it shouldn't come as a shock to us that an Asian story is making its way into the mainstream film market. To me, art is a reflection of life and reality. It cannot accurately reflect reality if it refuses to respect the people and stories of the majority of the population. That's what 'minorities' are. People of color.'
