Is Madre Linda from "You" Season 3 real?

[opens in new tab] Joe (Penn Badgley) finds a new romantic obsession, and a new town he either hates or lightly despises, in season three (opens in new tab) of the Netflix hit, Joe and his new wife, Love (Victoria Pedretti), move from sprawling Los Angeles to "a soulless, wealthy suburb of San Francisco. They move to the city partly because of its excellent schools (the perfect setting for their new son, Henry) and partly because it is the perfect place for a serial killer couple to hide out.

Of course, all their plans go awry when Joe finds a new love interest/stalking victim and Love becomes jealous (and stabbed). Joe and Love's new home life does not go as planned, but Madre Linda seems like the perfect home for a wealthy young family looking for a tight-knit community of tech founders and mommy bloggers. Unfortunately, this fictional neighborhood doesn't exist, but it is modeled after a suburb in Northern California adjacent to Silicon Valley.

Although Joe and Love have moved to Northern California, the actual filming location is much further south. The actual filming took place in the LA area of Southern California, similar to the area that appeared in Season 2.

As for Joe and Love's luxurious home, according to Narcity (opens in new tab), the actual house is in Van Nuys, a suburb just north of LA. The particular neighborhood of Cameron Woods is a popular filming location, and the house itself has appeared in Dynasty (opens in new tab), 9-1-1, and the Dixie Chicks music video Ready to Run (opens in new tab).

Madre Linda seems to be modeled after some of the wealthier Bay Area suburbs filled with Silicon Valley tech workers and their families. The name of the town itself, Madre Linda, translates as "beautiful mother," alluding to Love's transition to motherhood. It may also suggest that the town is run by a clique of parents led by mommy blogger Shelley Conrad (Sharita Grant).

This new environment elicits many critical (and funny) observations from Joe, who has image-obsessed biohackers and anti-vaxxers as new neighbors. His safe haven in town is the library, where he volunteers with single mother Marienne (Tati Gabriel) (opens in new tab).

When things get complicated for Quinn Goldberg and his family, the high-tech suburbs also present new conflicts. Claustrophobia turns out to be more than just a feeling. Surveillance cameras are peeking into every corner of town, and most residents wear bracelets that monitor their health. Not a good thing when you have to obliterate someone.
