Salvatore Ferragamo Steps Up with "Icon Up" Collection

As the fashion industry slowly but surely realizes that a more sustainable ethic is of paramount importance to it, designers (opens in new tab) are steering toward adopting a slower fashion philosophy. Italian fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo is one of the latest luxury designers to launch an eco-friendly collection dubbed "Salvatore Ferragamo Icon Up."

The collection clearly demonstrates that a traditional brand need not deviate from its roots to embrace circularity: the 300-piece capsule includes shoes, accessories, and trademark printed silks that have been upcycled from the brand's own The collection includes one-of-a-kind shoes and belts made from the brand's own upcycled dead stock. Each design is reimagined by a team of creatives and local Italian artisans, shining a light on innovation and craftsmanship while giving a second life to signature items from the iconic fashion house's inventory that might otherwise go unused.

Fully embracing the eco-friendly model, the Icon Up collection's packaging, from boxes to dust bags to tissue paper, is made from refashioned materials, including post-consumer waste pulp and pre-consumer waste leather. The collection will be available on Farfetch.com through early next year.
