Season 3 of the Netflix hit "You" (opens in new tab) follows Joe Goldberg and his new wife, Love, as they move to Northern California and the murderous couple settle into a quiet suburban life in Madre Linda. (Open in new tab) Things quickly go south as they settle into a new neighborhood populated by tech tycoons and lifestyle influencers. They are targeted by their powerful neighbor Matthew (Scott Speedman), the CEO of a rich tech company whose wife Natalie (Mikaela McManus) went missing in the first episode. He is consumed with getting to the bottom of things, which is no small feat for the serial killer next door.

Scott Speedman as Matthew is a 180-degree departure from the romantic roles he is known for in "Felicity" and "Grey's Anatomy." Here's what we know about the Hollywood veteran who took on this intense role.

The 46-year-old actor was born in London and moved to Toronto when he was 4. As a teenager, he was a gifted swimmer, placing ninth at the 1992 Olympic trials as a member of the Canadian Junior National Swimming Team. After an injury ended his athletic career, he turned to acting and studied at the University of Toronto and York University.

Speedman is best known for his role as Ben Covington, the boy Felicity (Keri Russell) follows to York University in the hit teen drama. Other major roles include playing Lycan-vampire hybrid Michael Corvin in the film Underworld and Barry "Buzz" Blackwell in the TNT drama Animal Kingdom.

Speedman first appeared in a medical drama in 2018, playing Dr. Nick Marsh in one episode of season 14. Dr. Marsh is a transplant surgeon who has great chemistry with series lead Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), who made a surprise return as a series regular this year and is expected to be Grey's new love interest.

In an interview with Deadline (opens in new tab) about the Season 18 premiere, Speedman said he is interested in returning to "Grey's Anatomy" for another romantic TV role, many years after Felicity." Let's just say the romantic comedy aspect was interesting to me. Ellen thought she could do that and I thought I could do that. I used to do a show. I knew Ellen could do comedy, and I thought I was funny.

In an interview with Glamour magazine (opens in new tab), Speedman revealed that he had just started Instagram. 'I'm from a generation that's a little more mysterious, so it's very strange for me to share,' he said. But it's part of this world and it's interesting. There are fun parts, but there are also ups and downs. It's weird how everyone is so into it.

"I hate that we're always on our phones. Me and my girlfriend [Lindsay Ray Hoffman] went to a restaurant the other day without our cell phones. We had to look at the menu. So social media and cell phones and our dependence on them drives me crazy."

Hoffman, a designer for swimwear brand Juliet (opens in new tab), has documented her pregnancy through gorgeously lit Instagram photos, including several selfies with the speedman. Among her sweet captions about the actor are "I can't wait to see you become a daddy," and "He's got the whole world in his hands" for a photo of Speedman holding her baby bump.

In addition to his beautiful nature posts, Speedman's Instagram also includes several photos and videos of his adorable puppy. He refers to the dog only as "that guy," so we don't know the puppy's name. From the video (opens in new tab) of Speedman coming home six weeks later and the puppy greeting him at the door, we know that the actor and the dog have a strong bond.

When asked about the most romantic thing he has ever done, Speedman told Glamour magazine that he likes big surprises. 'A few years ago, I woke up my girlfriend and said, "Hey, I've got to go. I woke up my girlfriend a few years ago and said, 'I'm renting a house in Hawaii today and I'm leaving in an hour. I like surprises like that. I like big surprises like that. There are moments of panic, but it's fun and exciting. You don't think too much about it, and five hours later you're in Hawaii.

Matthew is a menacing character from Joe and Love's perspective, spending most of the season on some sort of suspicious surveillance, but coming back alive without becoming a killer. speed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight (opens in new tab) Mann said he wished the tech CEO had gone a little deeper.

"'Let me kill somebody, let me do something. Kill somebody. Kill somebody. But not this time. But not this time. Who knows if he'll come back?"

He also said he has no qualms about coming back for another season, but also knows that You is not the kind of show where enemies from past seasons will reappear in Joe's new life.

"I don't know if I would put on a beret and follow him to Paris. But yes, I would. It was more or less open. I made it at the end. I didn't close that circle with him. It's possible, but I don't know. Maybe there's a different storyline involved."
