The Maid" Season 2: Everything We Know

The Maid" Season 2: Everything We Know

Netflix's latest hit series, "Maid," is based on the true story of a woman trying to make a better life for herself and her toddler. Stephanie Rand's memoir, Maid: (opens in new tab), follows single mother Alex (Margaret Qualley) as she leaves her abusive boyfriend and fights for custody of her 2-year-old daughter, Maddie, while cleaning houses and making ends meet. This heart-wrenching series is a calm and realistic portrayal of recovering from emotional abuse in a relationship and living within America's crumbling welfare system.

Currently ranked #3 on Netflix's Top 10, this engrossing drama has many fans who have already watched all 10 episodes and want more. For those waiting to see if Alex's story will continue, here's everything we know about whether or not Made Season 2 will air.

Maid is billed as a limited series, and Netflix has not yet indicated anything about a Season 2 renewal. However, other limited series have been renewed after they became very popular and received several award nominations after their release (see HBO's Big Little Lies and The White Lotus). Made" has been in Netflix's top 10 since its premiere last Friday, and the streaming giant may decide to continue the drama.

Nevertheless, Netflix submitted "Made" for a limited series Emmy after its release, suggesting that it sees the show as having a standalone season. In comparison, Netflix submitted its hit "Squid Game" for an Emmy in the drama series category, indicating that the K-drama hit hopes to have a second season.

Season 1 ends with a solid conclusion to Alex's story. After a second breakup with her abusive boyfriend Sean (Nick Robinson), Alex decides to move to Missoula, Montana to attend the school of her dreams and study creative writing. With the help of an astute lawyer introduced to her by housecleaning client Regina (Anika Noni Rose), Alex gets permission to take Maddie with her. The season ends with the mother-daughter duo arriving in Missoula and hiking Mount M near Alex's new campus.

Rand's memoir ends at the same point in her own story, when she and her daughter move out and she begins her studies at the University of Montana. Although the original story ends at that point, a second season could continue Alex's story in Montana, where she plans to move to a new housecleaning job and work while attending college. In that case, Alex and Maddie would interact with mostly new characters, and Sean and Alex's parents Paula (Andie MacDowell) and Hank (Billy Burke) might also make an appearance.

Creator and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler told Decider (opens in new tab) that she is up for a second season because she loves writing the show's characters, especially Alex." I would say that the show is a labor of love. I'm in love with all the characters and I could write Alex forever. She's in my heart. But I don't know what it will be like because I feel like we are telling her story."

Metzler also told the outlet that the show could be an anthology series with a completely new cast and featuring different domestic workers." I think there are a lot of maids out there, a lot of domestic workers who have experienced stories just as bad, if not worse, than Stephanie Rand's. She added: "It would be a very exciting and dreamy world if we could see another maid's story in another season, and I think that's what we're going to see. Someone from a completely different region, with a completely different life experience, perhaps a mother."
