Read MoreFollowing the hit Korean drama "Squid Game," the Netflix series "Death Penalty for All" has hit number one on the Netflix charts. The show has found fans all over the world, and after that ending, everyone is wondering if the Hyo San survivors will return. So will "Death Penalty for All" get a second season?
While most of the students at Hyosan High did not make it out alive, the season one finale saw many of our favorites survive the bombing of Hyosan. Onjo, Suhyuk, Hye-ri, Mi-jin, Tae-su, and Hyo-ryeong were housed in an isolation camp, while super zombie Nam-ra escaped with an increased craving for meat. Months later, the group led by Onjo is reunited with the former class president, who finds a group of other evolved zombies. The series ends with Namra joining the new group, and the students look on in shock (and boyfriend Suhyuk smiles).
Netflix has finally confirmed it: the former students of Ice Mountain High School will return for another season.Netflix announced the news as part of Geeked Week, Park Ji-hoo (Nam On-jo), Romong (Lee Soo-hyuk), Cho Yi-hin (Choi Nam-ra), Yoon Chanyeon (Lee Chong Sang.
It took a while for news of the renewal to arrive, but it's no surprise that Netflix has found a way to bring back the second most popular Korean drama after Squid Game. Now we just have to wait and see if "All of Us Are Dead" Season 2 will be released before or after the new episodes of "Squid Game" (open in new tab) (we're betting on the former).
The cast left at the end of Season 1 is pretty much in limbo. While life continues as normal in most parts of Korea, the former residents of Hyosan have been ordered to quarantine. Also, the group was attacked by zombies in the neighboring town of Rangdong, so presumably there are still zombies there.
We did get a hint of a future Namra storyline, with Namra leading a group of evolved zombies. They will probably face off directly with the military, whether they are evolved zombies or regular zombies, who will literally have a "scorched earth" policy. Regardless of what happens to Namra in the story, the other students will probably side with Namra and make sure their friend survives.
The announcement of Season 2 also focused on a new detail: the appearance of Yoon Chanyeong as Mr. Jung. The theory that Yoon Chanyeong survived the iceberg bombing has been around for some time, but the actor's casting in Season 2 confirms it (unless the twins are hidden somewhere). The big question we now have: is he a humvee like Namra, and how will he find his way back to the others?
Director Lee Jae-gyu told the Korea Herald (opens in new tab) that the series is made up of several plot points that could be expanded in a second season, especially evolved zombies like Nam-ra and Guinam.
"Many of the staging, settings, and scenes were intentionally created to expand the story into additional seasons, including the introduction of new races of zombies such as immunity and immortality. If the first season was about human survival, the next season can be about zombie survival. We hope that viewers will enjoy the next season as well."
Lee also said that he hopes viewers will think about the social issues raised by zombie thrillers, such as bullying teenagers and the wealth gap.
"The origins of the zombie virus were introduced to the series in an attempt to highlight who takes responsibility and who does not when events like school violence occur. He added, "I also thought that although it is a zombie action thriller, the series would offer viewers an opportunity to think about who they are.
In an interview with Wikitree in February (opens in new tab), Director Lee also revealed some of his ideas for a second season, suggesting the possibility of introducing "a new species of zombie, such as immunity or immortality." The director also said, "I have a vague picture that I drew up imagining what would happen if other actors, including Mr. Chung, appeared in season 2."
