2022 is the year Netflix dives into crypto fraud with the story of Gerry Cotten's suspicious death; when his death was announced in 2018, Cotten was managing the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Canada at the time, and according to his widow He was the only person with access to $217 million worth of crypto. Crypto King follows a group of investors who have turned into amateur detectives who believe the couple absconded with the money.

In 2017, Michelle Carter was convicted of manslaughter for seducing her boyfriend, Conrad Roy III, into committing suicide when she was 17 and he was 18, primarily over text messages. The new series, starring Elle Fanning of "The Greatest" as Carter, is based on the trial leading up to and following Roy's death and how real-life events affected everyone involved.
