You probably thought you recognized Campbell Bower. Here's what you should know about this British actor.

This 33-year-old actor grew up in London with parents in the music industry. He got his start in theater as a member of the National Youth Music Theatre and the National Youth Theatre in England. He later worked as a model and landed a major role in the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Bower is the person to call when you need to cast a villain in an iconic pop-culture franchise He's the guy to call when you need to cast a villain in an iconic pop culture franchise. Before "Stranger Things," he played a young Gellert Grindelbard in the seventh "Harry Potter" film, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows": he also played a young Gellert Grindelbard in the second spin-off film, "Fantastic Beasts: The Grindelbard Crimes". He also appeared in several Twilight films as Caius, a member of the Volturi.

In addition to these villainous roles, he played Jace in the film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. On television, he played King Arthur in the 2011 series Camelot and Christopher Marlowe in the 2017 series Will.

Bower's career as a musician is as long as his acting career; he was the lead vocalist and guitarist for the London punk band Counterfeit from 2015 to 2020. Bower now works as a solo singer-songwriter under the name Jamie Bower.

Eddie Manson seems to be a big fan of Bower's music, describing his sound to NME (open in new tab) as "exploring the dark side of life."

"I like spooky stuff. I like the macabre."

"I like the macabre. I like the idea of worlds beyond worlds. I like to push the limits of human experience and see how far I can go and what else is out there. I want to make music that sounds like I'm in hell, what do you guys think?

Bower also told the outlet that he would like to put out a soundtrack and someone should let the Duffer brothers know. (He also sells merchandise if you can't get a Vecna shirt.)

Bower, who played a man "haunted" by his family in "Stranger Things," is on the other side of the haunted house story in the upcoming film; according to Deadline (opens in new tab), he is "The Boys" in "True Haunting" He will co-star with Erin Moriarty. Based on a true story, the film follows Ed and Marcia Becker, a couple who buy their first house and discover that it is haunted by the ghosts of family members who previously lived and died there. They seek their first televised exorcism, but the ritual only makes things worse.

According to Page Six (opens in new tab), Bower has been dating talent manager Jess Moloney since early 2021. The actor has also previously dated Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright and Mortal Instruments co-star Lily Collins.

In addition to playing Henry Creel, a.k.a. Number One, the kindly orderly, in the scene with Eleven, Bower also voiced Vecna and spent over seven hours fitting her with a full prosthetic for the scene. He told Entertainment Weekly (opens in new tab) that Vecna's costume was "90 percent practical." The only thing that isn't practical is the vines that move on your neck." He also shared a nifty photo of the makeup process and the final result on his Instagram.

Bower was kept in the dark about the role during his audition, receiving scenes from Primal Fear and Hellraiser in the first round, followed by a "dummy side" to show a bit more of the character. Later, the actor told Variety (opens in new tab) that he became a total theorist to know what roles he was auditioning for.

"I was going crazy for about two days. I made a Claire Danes-esque mind map of "HOMELAND" in my apartment with a picture of Will Byers in the middle and all the other characters around it, and after two days I took a step back and thought it looked kind of nice."

Bower then had a meeting with the Duffer brothers, where he presented them with some photos from his research. Bower said, "So I showed them these and we flipped through them. After they saw it, they looked up at me and said, 'Did they give you the script?'" he told Variety. [They said], 'This is literally perfect. Everything we've got here is perfect. The references are perfect. The inspiration is perfect. Can I show you some more of the visual references we have and what we're thinking and talk a little bit more about the characters? I think at that point they knew I wasn't completely crazy."

In a post-Vol. 2 interview with The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), Bower added that he had also speculated all along that Vecna was behind the mind flayer and the Upside Down monster.

"We talked about the mood board, we talked about putting Will Byers in the middle. But what we didn't say was that there was literally a mind flayer next to him. It was a total coincidence. I guess whatever Matt and Ross [Duffer] were putting out into the universe, I was taking in," he said.

The cast and crew of Stranger Things seem to have a strict no-spoilers policy for all post-season interviews. Bower gave no hints as to whether Vecna would return for season 5, but told The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab) that he thinks the Hawkins gang still has a chance.

"There's always a chance for the good guys to win. You can do it so that you can really come across that you can actually forget about those seemingly exactly {} people who we promise, anyone who quickly just ignores how these seemingly exactly {} people are."
