Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, reveals skin cancer diagnosis weeks after announcing she has "beaten breast cancer"
This week has been one of the worst weeks in memory regarding the health of members of the royal family (or at least those who were once members of the royal family). After the Crown Princess's office at Kensington Palace announced that she is scheduled for abdominal surgery this week and will be out of royal business until at least April, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Charles will be hospitalized in the next few days for treatment of a benign prostate enlargement. It was announced today that Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with skin cancer.
"Following her diagnosis of early-stage breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York, has also been diagnosed with malignant melanoma," Ferguson's representative told People.
According to her publicist, Ferguson had several moles removed and analyzed by a dermatologist while undergoing post-mastectomy reconstruction surgery.
"The Duchess is grateful to her entire medical team, especially her dermatologist, for their support. She believes her experience underscored the importance of checking for the size, shape, color, texture, and appearance of new moles that could be signs of melanoma."
[8Ferguson is being treated for melanoma in London and is taking time off to recuperate at the Mayrlife Clinic, a medical health resort in Austria. A spokesperson continued, "She is undergoing further tests to make sure it was detected in the early stages." 'Obviously, it is heartbreaking to receive another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer, but the Duchess remains in good spirits.'
Ferguson was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer last June, which was discovered during a routine mammography screening. She subsequently underwent a successful single mastectomy and revealed in a New Year's Eve message shared on social media that she had "beaten breast cancer."
Ferguson married Prince Andrew in 1986 and they divorced in 1996, but have maintained an amicable relationship and live together in the Royal Lodge to this day. They have two children, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Ferguson joined the Royal Family for Christmas at Sandringham just a few weeks ago.
We send you many blessings, Duchess.
