'Grey's Anatomy' Cast Reunites at the Emmys-Be Still, My Heart

The premiere of the 20th season of Grey's Anatomy is two months away. But the big cast reunion at the 2024 Emmy Awards has everyone talking.

Katherine Heigl was the center of attention on the red carpet, wearing a trendy red gown and matching red lipstick. But the star drew even more fan attention when she reunited with her former "Grey's" co-stars to present an award at the 75th Annual Emmy Awards.

Heigl teamed up with Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson to present the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. (Rumors circulated that Sandra Oh might also join the presenters for "Glades," but that turned out to be just a rumor.) While the performers were on stage, Heigl noted that "there have been some changes [to the show] over the years," which made his co-stars laugh. However, the stars all attributed the show's ability to stay on the air for such a long season to its devoted fans.

Still, the 2024 Emmys were not the first "Grey's Anatomy" cast reunion in recent years; in 2023, Pompeo and Heigl reunited for Variety's "Actors on Actors" interview series, where Pompeo's character, Meredith, was described as " a "pick-up girl" and discussed Heigl's Emmy-winning role as Izzy.

Heigl's departure from the series was surrounded by drama when she withdrew her name from the 2008 Emmy nominations and said she was not "given the material" to deserve a nomination. The remarks sparked tension between her, the show's producers, and creator Shonda Rhimes. However, given the Emmy presenter reunion, it seems that at least Heigl is not on bad terms with her former co-stars.

The "Glades" reunion was a sweet Easter egg for fans of the medical drama's early seasons. Heigl and Chambers are no longer on the show, but they were happy to share the stage with their former co-stars.
