Christina Applegate's Emmy Awards Speech Makes Me Cry

Christina Applegate gave the perfect speech at the 2024 Emmy Awards, tugging at the audience's heartstrings and making them laugh out loud.

The star, who first revealed she has multiple sclerosis (M.S.) in 2021, took the stage Monday night to present her award with a cane and was instantly greeted with a standing ovation.

Sobbing, the actress told the audience, "Thank you so much! Oh my God! By standing up, you are totally shaming me for being disabled. It's okay, it's okay," she said to laughter. She then joked, "I don't have an Ozenpick body."

"Some of you may know me as Kelly Bundy from 'Married with Children,'" she said, jokingly admonishing, "You don't have to clap every time I do something."

She continued, "I don't have to applaud every time I do something." Or Samantha in "Samantha Who?" or perhaps Jen Harding in "Dead to Me," my last job. But few people know me from my debut as Baby Burt Grizzell in Days of Our Lives. That was a real breakout role," she said, and a picture of her in that role appeared on the screen.

She then introduced the nominees for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and announced that the eventual winner was Ayo Edebiri for The Bear.

Applegate herself was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Dead to Me, but lost to Kinta Branson for Abbott Elementary.

Speaking to Vanity Fair about her diagnosis in 2023, Applegate said (via TODAY), "With MS disease, it's never a good day. Things that people take for granted in their lives were normal for me. Going down stairs, carrying things, ...... I can't do those things anymore. It sucks. I can still drive a car for short distances. I can carry food to my kids. I can go up, but not down."
