Why Prince William was invited to dinner with Prince Charles the night Queen Elizabeth died, but Prince Harry was not

The facts that keep coming out of royal biographer Robert Hardman's latest book, The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, will be released on January 18. The book specifically details what happened immediately after Queen Elizabeth's death on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96. Her late Majesty the Queen breathed her last in Balmoral, Scotland. King Charles was already nearby, and his sons Prince William and Prince Harry immediately flew to the royal Scottish retreat, albeit separately.

According to the Mirror, when Harry arrived in Balmoral, he was greeted by his aunt, Princess Anne, the only daughter of the late Queen and Prince Philip, after receiving an alert from the BBC News app on his phone that his grandmother had died. He did not meet his father Prince Charles or brother Prince William until he arrived in London the next day. (Harry and Meghan Markle were in England when the Queen died, as they happened to be attending a pre-arranged engagement in England)

.

And now, Hardman writes in his new book, Harry was blatantly snubbed by Charles and William while at Balmoral. The new king, Hardman writes, had dinner with William, the instant heir to the throne. Prince Charles and William dined with the new Queen Camilla (then Queen Camilla) at Birkhall, the private residence of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla in Balmoral. Hardman writes that "the King needed to have an important but discreet discussion with his eldest son." 'Years ago, such an occasion would have automatically included the younger son. But not now.

Hardman writes that Harry was removed from the dinner for fear that he was "taking notes for an upcoming book" (Spare will be released four months later, on January 10, 2023).

That night, William stayed at Charles' house, while Harry stayed elsewhere on the property with other senior royals. 'Losing a second parent is a big deal, and being a senior citizen is a big deal,'

Harry wrote.

As for Harry, he wrote in Spare that after arriving at Balmoral, he went to see Queen Elizabeth to pay his respects, called Meghan, and then had dinner with Ann and her cousins, including Ann's daughter Zara Tindall.
