Tyra Banks just turned 50, but doesn't mind the "fine lines" on her face.
Confidence is something model Tyra Banks has carried with her for a long time, and age has not changed that one bit. The former host of "America's Next Top Model" took to Instagram to share with us the secret to embracing your age and loving the parts of yourself that society likes to call undesirable.
"I have these little wrinkles in the corner of my mouth right now and I kinda feel them," she captioned the photo. She then turned the question to her followers, "How do you feel about yourself these days?"
she asked.
Nothing is more appropriate than a milestone birthday to reassess one's relationship to aging. In September, about three months before her big birthday, Banks told People magazine that she was "not opposed" to cosmetic surgery as she gets older, but that so far she had "not had any age-related plastic surgery."
"I don't feel 50 when I look in the mirror," she said. I think 50 is the new 30-something."
Banks, who said in 2018 that she had a nose job early in her modeling career, said that while she has yet to enhance her appearance as she ages, "I'll probably need a little something," she said of her future. But I'm not worried."
That much is clear from her recent Instagram posts. And instead of hiding her age, Banks said three months before going 5-0 that she was proud to "keep saying I'm 50 when I'm not, as an excuse. When people ask me, 'What are you doing?' I say, 'No, I'm not, I'm 50.' Or I say, 'I'm 50, I just say what I think.'"
For her actual birthday last month, Banks went makeup-free in photos and wore only a fluffy gray robe. 'A lot of people are afraid of getting older,' she said. 'It's understandable. Things are not the same anymore. Our bodies. Our energy. Our minds. But my mind is stronger than ever. It's wise, baby."
Wise enough to proudly embrace the tiny crease at the corner of her mouth.
