RuPaul's Emmy Award acceptance speech, "Listen to the Drag Queens," he enthused.

RuPaul uplifted hearts around the world with the beautiful and passionate speech he gave at Monday night's Emmy Awards.

The TV star delivered his speech on stage after it was announced that "RuPaul's Drag Race" was named the winner in the reality show category, marking RuPaul's eighth consecutive win as host of his eponymous show. Drag Race" beat out "The Amazing Race," "Survivor," "Top Chef," and "The Voice" for the award.

RuPaul, legendary drag queen and reality show host, told the distinguished audience, "I am so honored to receive this award. Listen, you guys are so nice to honor our show and recognize these queens. We have had hundreds of drag queens in the world. On behalf of all of us, I thank you."

He added 'And listen, if a drag queen wants to read you a story in the library, listen to her. So listen to the drag queens! We love you.

The last part of RuPaul's speech referred to the many Drag Queen Story Hours that have recently been held around the United States. As the American Library Association puts it, "Some (of these libraries) have experienced backlash from some members of the community."

This, of course, is consistent with many of the fear-mongering and restrictive laws that have surrounded drug performance in recent years. Thus, the power of "RuPaul's Drag Race" feels like an enormous force for good at this point, and it is great to see it recognized as such by the Emmys.
