Prince Charles to be hospitalized next week for treatment of enlarged prostate, Buckingham Palace reports.
On the heels of news that the Princess of Wales will be hospitalized for approximately two weeks following scheduled abdominal surgery, NBC News reported this morning that Prince Charles himself will undergo inpatient treatment for an enlarged prostate. [Kensington Palace issued a statement on Kate this morning, and within an hour or so Buckingham Palace issued a statement on the King's health. Buckingham Palace announced that the King will undergo "corrective measures" at a hospital next week.
"Like thousands of men each year, the King is being treated for an enlarged prostate. His Majesty's condition is benign and he will be admitted next week for corrective surgery."
He added that 75-year-old Prince Charles has since recovered and that "public occasions will be postponed for a short time to allow for recuperation."
Palace officials told NBC News that the King was "keen to share details of his diagnosis in order to encourage other men who may be experiencing symptoms to get tested, in line with public health advice."
We will continue to provide updates on this developing story as well as news about Kate's health.
