Margot Robbie pays homage to supermodel Claudia Schiffer with vintage Chanel
Margot Robbie seems to have found inspiration in supermodels, especially Claudia Schiffer, from the Barbie she played in last summer's blockbuster movie. At the AFI Awards luncheon at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, Robbie paid homage to Schiffer, wearing a vintage Chanel look that the blonde beauty also modeled for the spring 1995 ready-to-wear show.
The ensemble featured a coral and black crop top and black skirt, with blue, red, and coral flower-shaped jewelry on the bust of the collared top and a gold chain with the Chanel logo on the skirt, People People reports.
Robbie attended the luncheon with "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig and co-star America Ferrera. It's no secret that Robbie has taken the Mattel doll look from Barbie to the red carpet almost to an art form, but as you may have noticed, Robbie also wears a lot of vintage Chanel in the film, much of it originally from the same 1995 show that Schiffer modeled.
For example, the pink Chanel skirt suit worn in the film by Robbie as Barbie, along with a lavender tweed skirt suit, was also worn by Schiffer in the same show, and "Barbie also wore a pearl drop and interlocking C diamond and gemstone statement necklace," People reports. Chanel also made a hot pink version of the same heart-shaped bag featured in the spring 1995 show for Robbie as Barbie."
In a promotional video for Barbie in 2023, a beaming Robbie told Chanel, "One of the archival suits I was wearing had a little label that said 'Claudia,' and I thought, 'Wow! I thought, 'Wow!
"When I went to Paris and went to the Chanel archives, I also discovered that Karl Lagerfeld had designed a Barbie collection in the 90s with Claudia Schiffer and supermodels modeling for Barbie," Barbie costume designer Jacqueline Dalan told People. It was the perfect Easter egg for one of Karl's costumes to be featured in the film." Dahlan also acknowledged that Robbie and Schiffer wore the same suit in the film.
