Taylor Swift pays tribute to Kobe Bryant with pendant necklace.
Further proving that there is no celebrity that Taylor Swift doesn't know, Swift is close to the Bryant family, led by Vanessa Bryant, who lost her husband Kobe and daughter Giana in a helicopter crash four years ago this month. Perhaps conscious of the impending anniversary of her death, on Thursday Swift accessorized her look for the day with a delicate silver necklace with deep meaning.
The piece was designed for a capsule collection for the Mambacita Foundation with jewelry designer Zoƫ Chicco, who teamed up with Bryant to celebrate both Kobe and Gianna. The nonprofit Mambacita Foundation was founded by Bryant in honor of her late husband and daughter. From the collection, Swift chose a round pendant featuring the words "Bet on yourself," which Kobe used to say often, surrounded by a circle of diamonds, according to Us Weekly. Bryant shared a photo of Swift's accessory on his Instagram Story on Friday, captioning it "Love you" and adding a heart and a "Swifties" sticker.
Bryant also noticed that Swift referenced Kobe's "Bet on yourself" mantra in a December interview with TIME's Person of the Year. In it, Swift said, "We met with all the studios, we met with all the streamers, we looked at how it was being received and appreciated and whether they had big dreams and hopes for it. Ultimately, we decided to bet on ourselves, as I do so often these days," she said. Realizing that this was another tribute to her late husband, Bryant shared a screenshot of the TIME article on her Instagram Story and once again wrote, "Love you." [Swift and Kobe's bond goes back to 2015. When Swift visited LA on her 1989 tour, Kobe surprised her. To commemorate the Lakers' record 16 sold-out shows at the arena, Kobe gave Swift, who played her NBA career with the LA team, a championship banner to hang from the rafters. Wrote Corby on Instagram at the time, "Friends hang from time to time, but banners hang forever @taylorswift."
After the tragic deaths of Kobe and Gianna, Swift sent her condolences to Bryant and her other three daughters Natalia, Bianca, and Capri. 'My heart is in pieces after hearing the news of this unimaginable tragedy,' Swift wrote on Twitter (now X) in January 2020. 'There is no measure to how my family is feeling. Corby meant so much to me and to all of us. I send my prayers, love, and endless condolences to Vanessa and her family, and to anyone who lost someone on that flight."
Last August, Bryant and her children went to a concert on Swift's Eras tour in L.A. The concert was a great success. During the show, 6-year-old Bianca was presented with a "22" hat, a moment captured in Swift's concert film, which was released in October to great success.
