Mariah Carey Finally Confronts Her "Bad Side"
Everyone has an angle they want to show in a photo, and Mariah Carey has an angle, too. Scroll through Mariah Carey's Instagram and you'll see thousands of beautiful snapshots, all taken from the same angle. That's her signature move.
In honor of the new year, the icon is showing a side of herself that some fans may not have seen before: in an Instagram photo posted on Monday, January 1, a sparkling Carey stares into the distance.
"New year, new beginning... Taking pictures from my 'bad side'!" She joked in the post's caption.
The 54-year-old's lore about her "bad side" is nothing new. In Britney Spears' 2022 memoir, The Woman in Me, she recounts the time she met Carey and learned what a ring light was. According to the "Lucky" singer, Carey taught her how to take the perfect photo backstage at an awards ceremony in the early 2000s.
"I asked if I could take a picture with her, and I tried to take it where we were standing, and she said, 'No! Darling, stand here. This is my light. This is my light. I want you to stand here so I can get a good side of me. ' Of course, she was completely right.
Now, more than 20 years later, the story of the good side and the bad side continues, both by Carrie herself and by her talented makeup artist, Christopher Buckle.
"A lot of people have a side they prefer, but I don't understand how you can say the other side is 'bad. Mariah is not only beautiful from right to left, she is beautiful inside and out," Buckle told Marie Claire exclusively, and he used Charlotte Tilbury's "Champagne Glow" highlighter and Fashion Fair's "Nude Attitude" lipstick last night in an all-around He added that he achieved the perfect look.
With her highlighter glowing and her natural curls flowing once again, it is clear that the "Touch My Body" singer has no "bad side" at all. Still, I respect her courage in posting that she is self-conscious (which is justified! We all have it!!!) -and I wouldn't say no to Mimi's new photos, especially the NYE charm-filled ones.
