Mariah Carey Breaks 35-Year Voluntary Rule, Calls Photo "Bad Side" of Face
Mariah Carey is welcoming 2024 as a newly single woman - having recently split from her boyfriend of seven years, Brian Tanaka, she is breaking new ground. The superstar posted a rare photo of her so-called "bad side" on Instagram yesterday (she prefers to be photographed from the right side, but the newly released photo was taken from the left), breaking out of her comfort zone. She captioned the photo "New year, new beginning." According to People, in the photo, Carey is wearing a glittery retro-fettered mini-dress and her hair is styled in long curls.
But while Carey may consider her left side to be the "wrong side," her fans, including Tamar Braxton, disagree with that notion. Braxton writes of the photo, "You never have the bad side MC." Truth.
In 2016, on her reality show Mariah's World, Carrie told Christopher Buckle, her longtime makeup artist, about the origin of her dislike of the left side of her face being shown, that when she did her first photo shoot at age 19, she told the woman on set, "This is your good side. He told the woman on the set, "This is your good side. Since then, Carey has "hated" pictures taken from the left side.
Great job Carrie for finally throwing that terrible advice out the window as 2024 begins. In a lengthy social media post on December 26, Tanaka said her relationship with the Christmas queen was over.
Yes, there are many new things ahead for Carey, but some things never change. At least if you're as fabulous as Mariah Carey, she opened up on her annual holiday trip to Aspen, Colorado, where she took to the hot tub in a red glittery gown and diamonds, according to a video she shared on Instagram. This has become something of a tradition for Carey, who has soaked in hot tubs in Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton gowns at various locations over the years.
