Emma Stone, asked if Taylor Swift's song "When Emma Falls in Love" is about her, says coy
Taylor Swift is known for her support of other women. She could fill the pages of War and Peace with the acts of kindness she has shown to fellow women, but this time Swift has a supporter of her own: Emma Stone.
The actress has fulfilled the dream of many Swift fans of actually seeing the Eras tour three times. Stone met Swift in 2008, and the two have been friends for 15 years. During an appearance on the Graham Norton Show on Sunday, Stone opened up about the origins of their connection.
"There was this thing in L.A. called the Young Hollywood Awards, and we met there, and we've stayed in touch ever since, and we've become great friends," Stone said. (Seriously, who isn't Swift's "best friend?" And that's not her only connection to this record-breaking world tour: Mandy Moore choreographed the tour and Stone's Oscar-winning musical La La Land. Stone said of the show, "It was an incredible spectacle."
Norton then asked the actress to confirm rumors that Swift's song "When Emma Falls in Love" (from the album Speak Now (Taylor's Version), released in July 2023) was about her. Stone said coyly, "You'll have to ask her." ("When Emma Falls in Love" is rumored to be about Stone's relationship with Kieran Culkin, whom she dated from 2010 to 2011, People reports.)
While Swift rarely confirms who she wrote a particular song about (unfortunately), the writing on the wall looked pretty good when she performed the song as one of the surprise songs at a show in Kansas City in July.
This is not the first time Stone has opened up about the Eras tour or her friendship with Swift; in June, she spoke to Vanity Fair magazine about the show, saying that "the concert was great" and that "I've known [Swift] since we were 17 and 18. I've known [Swift] since I was 17 and 18, so she hooked me up.
Stone also called Swift a "great friend" and told Vanity Fair of the show, "I've never seen anything like that, the amount of stamina to do 44 songs for 3.5 hours and maintain the extreme energy of the crowd."
