Katie Holmes agrees: Gucci's horsebit loafers are here to stay.
Tried-and-true items that are guaranteed quality and never go out of style are almost always worth the splurge. Some people invest in the stock market, others in their closets. A trusty pair of shoes makes getting dressed in the morning a breeze, and it's reassuring to know that your favorite pair will last you for many seasons to come. However, it can be difficult to spend your entire paycheck on a single pair of shoes. A perfect example is Katie Holmes' Gucci Horsebit loafers.
If anyone knows the importance of an investment item, it's Holmes. Our street style muse and a regular in the intimate chic dressing room (see: her chic camel coat), Holmes' style is both practical and sophisticated. When in doubt, she almost always throws a large jacket over any outfit. Holmes was similarly styled, going for a winter walk in her latest ensemble consisting of black monotone colors (a celebrity favorite this season), including a black coat, jeans, and, of course, black leather loafers.
Holmes wore her hair in a messy bun and aviator sunglasses. With its perfect knee-length tailoring and structured shoulders, the coat looked expensive even from a distance. A black turtleneck was slightly visible, as were straight-leg black jeans. Horsebit loafers added to the energy of the look, finding the perfect middle ground between sophistication and casual.
If, for example, the loafers were replaced with my favorite black Adidas Samba sneakers, the look would become more casual and less cohesive. Sure, loafers can feel stiff when paired with the wrong outfit, but when styled correctly, they can give even the most picky person the cohesiveness they need to make them forget about the days when their hair is unruly or their socks are mismatched. The Gucci option in particular doesn't boast fancy hardware or chunky soles. It's sleek and easy, and we bet it will work with any outfit in your closet.
If there is one thing we know for sure about the year ahead in shoe news, it is this: in 2024, we will be investing in quality loafers. Taking a cue from the actress, let's make sure this shoe is a secure, removable option that can add sophistication to any ensemble.
