Prince Harry and Meghan Markle showed "alienation" at the Queen's funeral, experts claim.

The last time Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent time with the Royal Family was for the late Queen's funeral in 2022 and the events surrounding it.

Of course, while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were welcome to mourn Harry's grandmother, the royal couple was clearly distanced from the rest of the family. This was made clear when they were photographed descending the steps of Buckingham Palace shortly after the Queen's passing.

"The alienation is evident as Prince Charles walks in front of his younger son and his wife, who are clearly oblivious to him and his wife behind them, as they descend the palace steps. The nonverbal messages seem powerful, but there is no sense of a family huddled together, not even communication," body language expert Judy James told the Mirror.

"Harry may be single-handedly demonstrating his bond with his wife by holding her hand here, but it is the father who projects emotion. Charles appears lonely, his head bowed sadly. Harry's head tilts away from Meghan, and his furrowed brow suggests that he is quietly sharing his grief with his father"

.

For James, there was another powerful way in which the King demonstrated his love for his youngest son during the funeral.

"Harry and Meghan sat directly behind Charles and Camilla.

"For any leader in history, the vulnerable position in terms of potential attack is the back, which is why we describe those closest to us as 'having our backs. This would have been a credible position in terms of Charles' feelings toward his son, despite the comments and claims already made.

"Doing so would have allowed Harry to see his father's vulnerability due to grief firsthand and up close, perhaps an olive branch in their relationship."

Although sharing their grief could have provided an opportunity for the Sussexes to mend fences with the other royals, James believes that the subsequent release of the Netflix documentary and Harry's memoir, Spare, has made that possibility much more remote!

More recently, Harry and Prince Charles seem to be on the verge of a possible reconciliation, but Harry and his brother Prince William are far from it.
