The ever-evolving style of Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark
In less than two weeks, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will become Queen of Denmark following the sudden abdication of her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe, who had been on the throne for a record long 52 years. If Queen Mary becomes queen, she will be the first ever Australian-born queen. She and her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, met in their home country when they visited for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. They met in a pub called the Slip Inn, where Mary, a successful advertising executive, had no idea that "Fred" was heir to the Danish throne.
This year, Frederik and Mary will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary, and Mary will celebrate 20 years of working as a member of the Danish royal family. For those who follow the royal families of the world (not just the British royal family), Mary has long been a style icon, a hard-working royal, and much loved, not unlike Britain's Princess Catherine. The two are so similar physically and circumstantially that Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel once called them "royal sisters."
Here is a look at Mary's evolving style over the past two decades, as she prepares to make a memorable transition this month. We can't wait to watch it all unfold.
