Gina Torres Says "Suits" Group Chat Is "Insane Right Now" - But Former Costar Meghan Markle Isn't Involved
Actress Gina Torres, who plays the titular character Jessica Pearson in Suits, appeared on the red carpet at tonight's Golden Globe Awards and let slip a potshot about the show's group chat.
"Suits," of course, has seen a resurgence in popularity over the past year, breaking records on both Netflix and Peacock (45 billion streaming minutes and counting). With rumors of some kind of revival swirling around this legal drama, Variety's Mark Malkin couldn't help but ask the question on everyone's mind.
"It's a 'Suits/Suits' reunion," Malkin said while speaking to Torres. Everywhere you look there are stars from 'Suits/Suits'!"
"It's a reunion!
"That's kind of awesome, isn't it?" Torres laughed. Torres laughed and said, " Did you plan this?" "Are you guys texting each other?" And. Malkin followed up. Regarding the phenomenal number of viewers this summer, Torres replied. 'Our e-mail threads are going crazy right now. It's very exciting."
Malkin, an expert journalist, had to go there when talking about the show's most famous cast members. (Needless to say, Meghan is pursuing other careers after "Suits" ends, not least marrying Prince Harry in 2018 and becoming the Duchess of Sussex.)
"Who would text Meghan and say, 'Come to the Golden Globe Awards, Meghan Markle!' ' and said, 'I'd love to see you there!'" Malkin said.
"We don't have her phone number," Torres said. Torres said."
And then she added: "She's not going to be able to call me. She will see. She'll be glad we're here."
Page Six further reported that Meghan was asked to attend the "Suits" reunion at the Globes, but turned down the opportunity: "We asked the Duchess, but unfortunately she said she had a prior engagement," a source told the magazine.
Meghan herself mentioned the return of Suits during a red carpet appearance at Variety's "Power of Women" event in L.A. in November. When told that the show has garnered such great numbers on streaming services since the summer, Meghan said, "Isn't it wild?"
She said, "It's wild.
Meghan was on the show from its inception in 2011 until 2018, when she left the show to marry Harry. (The show ended the following year in 2019.) Meghan said she "doesn't know" why fans are so enthusiastic about "Suits" more than four years after it ended, but "it's hard to find a show these days that can binge-watch that many episodes, so that might have something to do with it. He said his best guess is that "it's a good thing. But good shows last a long time."
Of her experience filming the show, she said, "It was great to work with a great cast and crew. I had a really good time."
It remains to be seen if Megan will be part of the show's revival, but if the showrunners want to ask her, they will have to find her first.
