Most Awkward Moments at the Golden Globes

2024 Golden Globes: Time Spent! The awards were given out! Speeches were made! Jokes were made! And there were plenty of cringe-worthy moments. Given the acrimonious history of this particular awards ceremony and the numerous controversies, it is no wonder that things were not always uneventful. [So we've picked out five of the most awkward, confusing, and horrifying moments of this year's awards ceremony. As host Joe Coy said in his introductory monologue, "I got this job 10 days ago. Would you like the perfect monologue?"

Koy's Bodily Barbs Don't Land

Making jokes about the nominees is nothing new, but Koy's obsession with the Barbie cast and Saltburn star Barry Keoghan's body was not well received by the audience. Jumping off the Barbie bit, Coy patronized Greta Gerwig's achievement by comparing Barbie's original story ("doll with big boobs") to Oppenheimer's Pulitzer Prize-winning original story. When audiences did not respond positively, he added, "I saw Barbie and really loved it," and tried to cover up the generally laughable sexism with what I'm sure felt like a moment of equality.

"I don't want to sound like I'm a creep, but it's kind of weird that I'm attracted to plastic dolls. Ryan [Gosling], I'm attracted to your eyes," he said, then added, "Margot [Robbie], it's not always about you!" He added.

He then asked Kyogan where his penis sat. This is, haha, you know, very funny and novel! He compared Bradley Cooper's nose in "Maestro" to Keoghan's genitals. Because it's a penis! LOL [The difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL is that there are fewer Taylor Swift shots," Coy said awkwardly, and the 10,000th iteration of this joke was made. The joke landed like a football-shaped lead balloon.

Wakanda for Merrill?

Host Coy also had Meryl sign "Wakanda Forever" during the monologue: Wakanda Forever was released over a year ago, so it was not nominated!

Kevin Costner is not in it

Listen! Reading the teleprompter can be difficult (we used to read teleprompters all the time)! But whereas America Ferrera showed the kind of "I'm just trying to do a little" corny energy that one would expect from an awards presentation, Kevin Costner was clearly not interested in playing the role. Nor to reading the teleprompter. Even while "reading" Ferrera's monologue from the Barbie movie "Ferrera."

The Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Awards

What are these awards? Why does it exist? The first edition of this award was given to Barbie. Barbie? Indeed! Everyone loved Barbie! But to give the award to Barbie, who made Hollywood so much money, "I know you won't get any other awards, but I'm grateful that you saved Hollywood.
