Rene Rapp as Regina George at "Mean Girls" Premiere
As someone who couldn't get out of musicals, I can't wait for the "Mean Girls" movie musical to be released this Friday.
People are hesitant, but the stage version is very good (trust me) and captures the original film perfectly. Plus, it features Rene Rapp, who was in the Broadway production and is a great singer.
Rapp plays the iconic Regina George in the film and paid homage to the original Regina George, played by Rachel McAdams, in her costume at last night's premiere.
Rapp wore a black tuxedo dress with a baby pink corset. She paired this Christian Siriano Spring 2024 design with silver and black chunky jewelry and black leather pointed heels. And let's not forget her signature blonde bangs.
The inspiration for this look came from the baby pink satin strapless dress McAdams wore in the spring love scene in the 2004 film.
This is a perfect way to pay homage to another Regina George, and it's very typical of her! Don't worry, I know I can't make the fetch happen, so I'll just call it Gruul for now.
As for the original Regina George, unfortunately McAdams was not one of the stars who attended last night's premiere. She also did not participate in Wal-Mart's "Mean Girls" commercial in November, but the other three Plastics (played by Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert) all did.
Asked about her decision not to do the commercial, McAdams said, "I don't know, to be honest, I wasn't that excited about doing it. I mean, the movie looks amazing, but I had never done a commercial before, and it just didn't feel like my bag. And I didn't... I didn't know people were doing them. Of course, I did want to attend the 'Mean Girls' reunion and hang out with the Plastics.
It's refreshing to see McAdams choosing to do what's right for her, unencumbered by nostalgia or pressure. You can do it.
2024's Mean Girls is scheduled for release on January 12 and will see Rapp bring Regina George to the big screen. In the meantime, you can listen to one of the film's songs, "World Burn," on Spotify. Thank you.
