Selena Gomez on Social Media "Out" List After Golden Globes Drama
Selena Gomez has a lot going on right now.
At the Golden Globes, she was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for her role as Mabel in Only Murder in the Building. Her brand, Rare Beauty, is a favorite of many makeup pouch staples. She is a mental health activist, has released new music, and is in a happy, healthy relationship. Amazing! So many good things.
But yesterday, Gomez posted on her Instagram Story that she was taking a break from social media. She wrote: "I'm going to focus on what's really important. I'm going to focus on what's really important," she wrote, adding a video of her boyfriend Benny Blanco playing with her two young children.
This blunt and brief message suggests that there is a reason for his sudden departure from social media. Perhaps it has something to do with the recent drama surrounding Gomez at the Golden Globes?
At this star-studded event, Gomez was caught on camera leaning over to tell his best friends Taylor Swift and Kelly Teller something juicy, both of whom seemed shocked by the gossip Gomez spilled.
Naturally, the Internet went nuts over it, with amateur lip-readers claiming that Gomez had asked for a picture with Timothée Chalamet, but his girlfriend Kylie Jenner told him no.
Once again, Gomez was caught in the middle of a scandal.
Since then, however, sources close to Gomez have claimed that Gomez spoke to neither Chalamet nor Jenner at the event. Later, Gomez herself came forward and wrote in an Instagram post on E! News, "Oh no, I told Taylor about the two friends I dated. It's none of anyone's business."
Chalamet clarified to a TMZ photographer that there is no feud between him and Gomez.
The Internet may have been wrong about this, and Gomez may not find it amusing. She had previously resented the intrusion of fans into her life, such as her comments about Blanco when it became clear they were dating.
This was also the subject of an Instagram Story in which she and Blanco kissed (in the supply closet?) with the caption, "I win." Something is going on.
But this is not the first time Gomez has stepped back from social media. Just last October, Gomez took a break, writing, "Because my heart aches to see all the fear, hate, violence, and terrorism going on in the world."
This may have been an attempt to protect her mental health from the current buzz surrounding the topic of the Golden Globes, or it may be completely unrelated.
Sources close to Gomez also recently told People that she is "super happy and present" in her new romance, and this offline move may be to continue that presence.
While we will definitely miss her posts while she is offline, we are inspired by her example of putting herself before her online presence, not having 429 million followers like her or whatever.
