Meryl Streep has long been a single woman, 45 years to be exact, but despite rumors to the contrary, her "Only Murder in the Building" co-star Martin Short doesn't seem to be the kind of man to snatch her off her feet. (Damn, that's cute though.)

Page Six reports that dating speculation reached a fever pitch when Streep and Short looked cozy sitting together at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. But unfortunately, that is not the case. Short's representative said that there is nothing between them and that their connection is purely platonic. (Streep and Short were the only table mates talked about that night, and when they weren't getting into chats with Taylor Swift and Kelly Teller, "Only Murder in the Building" co-star Selena Gomez was also a table mate)

Streep and Short became close while playing love interests on Hulu's hit show, but they are "very good friends," Short's rep told People.

Streep and her husband of 45 years, Don Gummer, separated in 2018, but the news only became public in October. (Their last public appearance together was at the 2018 Academy Awards, but she was still wearing her wedding ring until the news broke.) Streep's representative said at the time, "Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for over six years and will always care about each other, but they have chosen separate lives." The couple has four children.

Short's wife, Nancy Dolman, died of ovarian cancer in 2010 at the age of 58; they were married for 30 years and shared three children. In a 2019 interview with AARP the Magazine, Short called his marriage a "triumph" and admitted that he and Dolman talked "all the time" after her death.

"So it's tough," he said. She passed away in 2010, but we still keep in touch all the time. Especially in regards to our three children." I think when people die, they zoom in on the people who love them. It just ends there, and the idea of "don't talk about them" is wrong. It is based on the denial that we are all going to die. So for me, she is still here."

Short has not publicly dated anyone in the past few years. Streep, too, has not been dating anyone publicly (until now) since news of their breakup last year.
