Add Princess Diana's childhood home, Althorpe House, to the list of (expensive) celebrity homes to rent

Not long ago, Marie Claire featured celebrity homes available for rent on Airbnb. Cher, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow, and more: the Althorpe House, Princess Diana's childhood home, is available for rent.

The mansion is available for rent on the luxury real estate rental website Elysian Estates and was listed by Princess Diana's brother, Earl Charles Spencer. Although "exact rates have not been disclosed," the Mirror reports that "guests will pay tens of thousands of dollars just for a night's stay at the mansion. The Elysian Estate can also offer chefs, helicopter rides, pianists, shooting, stalking (deer stalking, not celebrity stalking), and fireworks as part of the experience.

Almost 100% not included is a visit to Diana's grave on the property, located on an island in the middle of a lake called Lake Oval. This grave has been closed to the public since Diana's death in 1997.

"Althorpe is truly one of the grandest, most sumptuous, and exclusive venues in England," the listing for the estate reads. Althorpe, the ancestral home of the Spencer family, rises amidst a vast private estate, its grandeur rivaling the beauty of the surrounding parkland." To stay at Althorpe is to be part of the magnificent history of this magnificent estate, famous since 1508 for its modest but grand hospitality to distinguished guests, including royalty and nobility."

The list continues, " Althorpe offers an unforgettable setting for hosting special occasions, combining discreet service, exquisite cuisine, magnificent surroundings, and a wonderful sense of history, all combined with 21st century luxury."

.

This is not the first time Althorpe has been open to the public; the Earl of Spencer came under a barrage of criticism in 2013 when he used a travel agency to rent Althorpe to tourists for £25,000 per night.
