David Beckham ruthlessly shuts down Victoria's claim that he grew up "working class."
Honesty is one of the non-negotiable foundations of a healthy marriage.
That's why David Beckham wasn't going to let what he felt was a bit of a lie from his wife Victoria during the filming of the Netflix documentary "Simple Beckham."
At the show's premiere, Victoria told the story of how they first met and got together in a confessional-style scene, explaining that the fact that he was so close to his family was really the deciding factor for her.
However, what she said next caused the clip to go viral on TikTok and Twitter.
"We both come from families that work really hard. Our parents both work really hard. We're very working class," Victoria told the producers earnestly as she sat on the sofa in the family's London home.
But David, passing in the hallway, heard her and mouthed the words, "Be honest."
Victoria protested, "I'm honest."
Her husband would have none of it, and told her, "You know what? What kind of car did your father drive you to school in?"
And.
The fashion designer stumbled over her answer and said, "It's not a simple answer because... I said, "It depends."
Of course, David wanted to make sure Victoria answered, so he kept pushing until she finally said, "OK, in the 80s, my father had a Rolls Royce."
The clip thoroughly amused and deeply annoyed people on social media.
"It's the same energy that a lot of people born rich have," one said.
"Why should I say I'm working class when I'm not?
Still others pointed out that Victoria was nicknamed "Posh Spice" during *that* 90s girl band era for a reason. Obviously, "posh" in the UK is shorthand for "upper class."
As to why Victoria felt ahem - confused about her background, I will leave this paragraph from a very reputable source (yes, I mean Wikipedia) for context.
"Beckham was born at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, England, and grew up in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire.
"She is the eldest of three siblings, Jacqueline Doreen (née Cannon), a former insurance clerk and hairdresser, and Anthony William Adams, who worked as an electronics engineer. They both founded a wholesale electronics business, and Victoria, her sister Louise, and her brother Christian Adams grew up wealthy.
