One PR Expert on Why Meghan Markle Should Wait to Release Her Memoir
Ever since the release of Prince Harry's best-selling bombshell memoir, Spare, in January of this year (and even before), people have been wondering if Prince Harry's wife Meghan Markle would release her own memoir.
According to one PR expert and royal commentator, if the Duchess of Sussex wants to write a book about her life, the best strategy is to wait until her and Harry's desire for a personal story grows.
"I would be surprised if Meghan does an autobiography in the next few years," Edward Coram-James told the Express.
"You don't publish a biography when the public is definitely a little tired of hearing about you." Interest in the Sussex family is currently on the decline, and its presence has waned since the beginning of this year."
Collum-James has a point: after the release of Spare, the general feeling among royal fans is that they know everything there is to know about the Sussexes and their relationship with the royal family, and therefore there is not much left to say.
However, experts do not believe that Meghan should shelve her aspirations as a memoirist forever.
"At some point, there will be renewed interest in the royal couple. [Meghan] should wait until then."
"That said, the Sussexes have repeatedly broken the long-held golden rule of PR (to their detriment, I would argue) over the last few years."
"So, in some respects, ignoring this and releasing their memoir at a time when many would simply not want it
As of September 2022, there were indications that Meghan might release a memoir.
In December 2022, a source said, "She intends to write the book and is not holding back. It's just a question of timing and how long she wants to hold out to protect her and Harry's remaining relationship with Prince Charles."
On that point, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams warned last month that "this will almost certainly have huge sales and will ensure that the rift (with the royal family) remains or, if possible, widens." Yikes.
