Meghan Markle Says "Being a Mother is the Most Important Thing in My Life" at Arcewell's First In-Person Event Yesterday
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated World Mental Health Day in New York City yesterday with an emotional summit that doubled as the Archwell Foundation's first in-person event (Harry and Meghan are founding a nonprofit in 2020. (According to People, Harry and Meghan will launch their nonprofit in 2020, and one of its core beliefs is that "mental health and collective wellbeing are paramount," and the foundation is "committed to all philanthropic efforts through this lens.")
At the summit, Harry and Meghan hosted an emotional panel of parents navigating the challenges of mental health in today's digital age; People reports that Harry and Meghan have been working behind the scenes with the parents who attended the summit.
"I can't begin without thanking all the parents, mothers and fathers, who have not only physically been with us today, but who have joined us on this journey over the past year and created a community of shared experiences," Harry, along with Meghan, told the panel discussion Harry spoke when he took the stage at the panel discussion with Meghan. 'I know it hasn't been easy for you all to be here. [Meghan added, "A year ago, we met some of these families, and it was impossible not to shed a tear when we heard their stories. As parents, our children are really young, two and a half and four and a half, but social media isn't going away." By design, there was an entry post that was supposed to be positive and community building, but something developed.
The panel was moderated by Carson Daly, who turned to Megan at the end of the panel and asked her, "What are you doing?" As a mother of two young children, after what you've heard today from the families you've gotten to know over the past year and the work that Arch Cherwell is doing in this space, where is this on your priority list?
"Being a mother is the most important thing in my entire life. Except, of course, being this man's wife," she replied, gesturing to Harry. 'But I do feel fortunate that our children are still at such a young age. They say that when you become a parent, the days are long but the years are short. That's why I worry. But over the past year, the more wonderful parents, survivors of these experiences, share their stories and the more information we gather, the more we can move the needle a little bit. Everyone is affected by the online world and social media. We all just want to feel safe. I am convinced that by listening more, recognizing and visualizing what is really happening, together we can make a big difference."
At the event, Meghan wore a cream off-the-shoulder top and wide-leg pants combination by Altuzarra and completed the look with heels by Aquazzura.
Daley is a board member of Project Healthy Minds, and the three were also joined by Surgeon General Vivek Murthy to discuss their work and explore potential solutions. The summit, "The Archerwell Foundation Parent Summit: mental wellness in the digital age," was held to "give a voice to families passionate about building a safer online world for their children and teenagers," People reported. At the end of the panel, Harry and Meghan received a standing ovation and exchanged hugs with Daley and Marcy before quietly exiting the stage.
