Taylor Swift Returns to the Fake Bob Era
From the leather-laden days of "Reputation" to the more rustic and woodsy "Folklore," each Taylor Swift album has its own particular aesthetic. Nevertheless, there is one special trait that has remained consistent throughout the superstar's many style transformations: her long, honey-like hair. Fans call her "blonde" for a reason.
On Tuesday, October 11, Swift showed up in Los Angeles to attend the premiere of her new documentary, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. The nearly three-hour film takes fans through the "eras" (musical and aesthetic) of Swift's career. To mark the milestone (Beyonce was there to celebrate), the "Invisible String" singer sported her signature blonde hair in a faux bob and a look reminiscent of times past.
With a texture reminiscent of Swift's natural waves, her hair was softly curled, including the bangs, and was undercut to fall just below her jawline, with a hint of wispy curl creeping in for maximum romanticism. It wouldn't surprise me if the "Red" singer cut a real bob with her best friend Selena Gomez, but Taylor's version (pun intended) had all the hallmarks of the temporary style.
The vintage-inspired hairdo was complemented by a sharp cat eye, blue eye shadow, matte skin, soft pink blush, and bright, classic red lipstick (of course). Online, fans pointed out Swift's ties to past styles. The bob is the very "1989" of 2014, when the Grammy winner rocked a straight short cut and bangs.
From the neck down, Swift's cornflower blue Oscar de la Renta gown, with its unforgettable diamond Cartier necklace, ushered in its own era. Strapless and composed of bunches of quilted flowers, the dress was soft and sweet in a Swiftian way, while the cutouts gave it strength. She is a genius.
