A longtime friend of Prince Harry's was not invited to Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding reception and had something to say about it.
As the world watched, Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in front of 600 guests at St. George's Chapel in Windsor on May 19, 2018. The soiree was attended by Oprah Winfrey, David and Victoria Beckham, George and Amal Clooney, and many others. The Mirror reported that "for some, the church service marked the end of the celebrations, while others were invited to join the happy couple for a luncheon hosted by the Queen at St. George's Hall afterward." The luncheon was followed by a lavish evening reception hosted by then Prince Charles, where the guest list was again cut and only 200 of Meghan and Harry's closest friends enjoyed the party throughout the night.
Harry's oldest schoolmate, Tom Inskip, aka "Skippy" As Omid Scobie and Caroline Durand detail in their book Finding Freedom, Skippy was unhappy that he was not chosen for the reception.
"Notably absent were Harry's old friend Skippy and his wife Lara, who had questioned Meghan's relationship with the prince," Scobie and Durand write. 'They were invited to the ceremony and lunchtime reception, but not to the evening party. At brunch the day after the wedding, Skippy told friends, 'Meghan changed Harry too much. Friends at Eaton said the prince was in awe of people like the Clooneys and Oprah. 'We've lost him,' Skippy concluded."
According to Scobie and Durand, "Many of Harry's old friends said the guest list for the evening was for the prince and bride to say, 'These are the people we need in our lives from now on.'"
Early in Finding Freedom, Skippy discusses Harry and Meghan s romance after expressing concern about how quickly it was progressing, the author describes the conflict that Harry and Skippy's friendship faced, with Skippy advising Harry to try living with Princess Meghan for a bit "before doing anything more serious."A source told Scobie and Durand that Skippy's advice "came from a good place," but Harry "didn't completely see it that way." The source added that "he (Harry) was really hurt that someone close to him didn't trust his judgment." (If you recall, the beginning of the ongoing feud between Harry and his brother, Prince William, had a similar history.)
Harry and Skippy's friendship goes back to their days at Eton. As a young man, Skippy was known by the press as Harry's "wingman" and often accompanied Harry to nightclubs and on vacations. According to the Telegraph, it was Skippy who organized a party in Las Vegas in 2012 (the infamous party where Harry played billiards naked in his hotel suite).
