New "Suits" Project Begins - Meghan Markle's Return Unlikely
"Suits" fans, stay tuned - multiple media outlets are reporting that a spin-off of the show is in the works, with Tatler reporting that after the show's successful renaissance on Netflix this summer, NBC Universal has began developing a new series to follow the original version that aired.
The legal drama, perhaps best known for Meghan Markle's role as paralegal Rachel Zane, became the most-streamed series in the country for 12 consecutive weeks after its June debut on Netflix. The show's renewed popularity has prompted NBCUniversal to express interest in a new project, and series creator Adam Korsh has moved the series from New York to Los Angeles, where Tatler reports that the show is in the early stages of development as "neither a reboot nor a sequel." Instead, it will be a companion piece to The Good Wife's The Good Fight or Cheers' Frasier." The new project will be the third installment of Suits, following Pearson, a one-season spin-off set in Chicago, with Gina Torres playing Jessica Pearson.
Markle left the series at the end of season 7, with the last episode airing just a month before her May 2018 wedding. The entire cast of Suits was present when Meghan married Prince Harry.
In addition to Netflix, Suits is also available on NBC's streaming platform Peacock. Between these two streaming services, the show has reached the 2.359 billion minute mark in viewers, reports The Daily Mail. The series spans nine seasons and 134 episodes.
