Madonna Says She Didn't Think She'd Succeed After Illness on First Day of Changed Tour

Madonna performed the first show of her Celebration Tour on Saturday, which was postponed due to her recent health scare.

"I didn't think I was going to make it," Madonna revealed to the crowd at the O2 Arena in London, England (via Deadline).

"Neither did my kids, so I woke up with them," she continued.

"I forgot my life, or the five days of my death. But the angels protected me. If you want to know my secret, how I survived, I said, 'I have to be there for my children. I have to stay for my children.'"

In June of this year, Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, shared on Instagram, "On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection and will be in the ICU for several days."

"Her health is improving but she is still undergoing treatment. A full recovery is expected.

Oseary explained that this means her tour will have to be rescheduled.

A few weeks later, Madonna herself mentioned her health concerns.

She wrote on Instagram, "Thank you for the positive energy. Prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I feel your love. I am on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life."

She continued. [When I woke up in the hospital, my first thought was of my children; my second thought was that I didn't want to disappoint the people who had bought tickets to my tour. I also didn't want to disappoint the people who had worked so tirelessly over the past few months to create my show. I don't want to let anyone down."

"Right now I'm focused on my health and getting stronger.

I'm very happy that Star is doing better.
