Adele's two-tone manicure is an optical illusion
When you come to Las Vegas, your evening plans must be something special. You could catch a magic show. Or (if you're lucky enough to get tickets) check out Adele's weekend residency. In a true stroke of Vegas luck, the audience at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace could have both experiences at the same time this weekend. When Adele took the stage, she sang her heart out for her 31st consecutive weekend, while simultaneously performing a mind-blowing manicure for the first time
.
Her black and nude manicure appeared to be two lengths long, one considerably shorter than the other. It took me about a dozen tries to figure out what was going on with this tripped-out (and seemingly unrealistic) manicure. But upon careful examination, it appears that the background of her black dress is the source of the optical illusion.
This manicure, done by LA-based nail artist Zola Ganzoligto, has a nude base. Simple enough, right? Ganzorigt skillfully painted each quarter of the "I Drink Wine" singer's long, almond-shaped nails (the top left, to be exact) black, placing only a small golden pearl in the center to offset the illusion of disappearing nails.
Adele showed off this manicure in a series of photos from the October 13 and October 14 shows. Dressed in a black cold-shoulder gown with gold detailing, the shape of her nails is consistently difficult to ascertain from photo to photo. In one photo, she posed with her hands on her hips, making it difficult to distinguish between her nails and the fabric. In another, she held up a copy of her fiancé and rumored husband, Rich Paul's new book, Lucky Me, and flashed a huge ring.
Because she is Adele, the Grammy winner finished off her look with dramatic eye makeup and the most catty cat eye. Her blonde hair was done in a perfect side-parted blowout that seemed to fly back as she sang, even without a wind machine.
In a classic example of mind-reading between manicurist and client, Adele and Ganzolicht's Instagram post was captioned "Weekend 31." With this residency show spanning 34 weeks and a show coming up on Halloween weekend, one never knows what magical manicures will be on the horizon.
