Bottega Veneta Opens New Fashion Academy

Some brands draw the eye with flashy gimmicks and look-at-me logos. Others adopt a quieter approach, letting craftsmanship take over. Bottega Veneta belongs to the latter. Its signature intrecciato weave has been dazzling shoppers since the late '60s, and Creative Director Mathieu Blasie continues to prove himself a wizard with textiles (see: Kate Moss's leather flannel and blue jeans). And now, Bottega Veneta is looking for the next generation of artisans: Bottega Veneta has opened a fashion academy, Academia Reiver et Ingenium, to train artisans and further develop the core tenets of craftsmanship

.

Accademia Labor et Ingenium (Latin for craft and creativity, two pillar concepts of the luxury brand) is based between the brand's atelier in Montebello Vicentino and a new production site in Povolaro Dueville It is located between the brand's atelier in Montebello Vicentino and the new production center in Povolaro Dueville. At the college, 50 students a year are trained and hone their skills under the tutelage of luxury masters. Upon completion of the course, students are guaranteed employment at Bottega Veneta. [Leo Longone, CEO of Bottega Veneta, said, "The Academia Leber et Ingenium is an important strategic pillar to maintain Bottega Veneta's unique savoir-faire. Outstanding craftsmanship and creativity are essential to the Bottega Veneta brand and to the traditions of our home region of Veneto. The Academia takes the collective philosophy at the heart of Bottega Veneta to a new level, building on a rich history of skill sharing and innovation to train the artisans of the future."

The Academy's first training began this week with a seven-week master class in partnership with the University of Venice. The course is entitled "The Creative Process of the Craftsman": in this course, students will learn about the prototyping and production of various bags, including the famous woven bag, as well as the other side of the luxury fashion world. As a young apprentice at Bottega Veneta, I learned from the expertise, passion, and precision of our experienced craftsmen," said Mr. Mendelssohn. It is a great honor and responsibility to pass on this unique knowledge to new generations and to continue the great Bottega tradition in all of its community, creativity, and cultural heritage."
