Justin Timberl breaks up with Britney Spears over a two letter text during a Spears music video shoot.

[The more small stories that come out about Britney Spears' upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me, the more I want to get my hands on all 288 pages of it. (Not from Spears' memoir, but from an eyewitness to a pivotal moment in her life. It was the moment when her ex, Justin Timberlake (whom Spears dated from 1999 to 2002), broke up with her with a two-word text message. (Couldn't they have at least had three of each per year?)

Flashback to February 2002: when Spears stepped onto the downtown Los Angeles set of the "Overprotected (Darkchild Remix)" music video, she "powered through" a rigorous dance session during the two-day shoot They were ready and happy, Page Six reported.

"There's something in them, people who don't know where it comes from," she said. That's her." I was so happy that this person, the biggest star in the world, was everything I wanted her to be and more"

Toward the end of the second day, according to Applebaum, Spears suddenly went missing for 20 to 40 minutes. When he arrived at her trailer, Spears was sitting on the floor in a Juicy Couture sweat suit (exactly 2002), legs crossed, makeup smeared, and tears streaming down her face. She held up her Motorola flip phone to Applebaum and said Look. I can't believe it. Then she showed Applebaum a text message from Timberlake. (There were only two words, but at least three exclamation marks.)

Timberlake, Applebaum said, had been trying to reach Spears all day while she was on set, mostly because he was "pissed" about her affair with choreographer Wade Robson, which Spears admitted in the book. (Timberlake was also unfaithful, cheating on him with "six or seven women," Spears wrote, and Timberlake cheated on him first.) Spears' longtime assistant and friend, Felicia Crotta, put her arm around Spears to comfort him. Spears was hesitant to finish the shoot, but Applebaum gave her some consideration and said, "I'm sorry. Spears looked at Applebaum seriously and said, "I'm sorry. I am going to show him that he has ruined the best thing he ever had."

According to Applebaum, Spears then filmed the rest of the video in the rain with even more "conviction," as if he were "on a mission." Click here for the video.

After the breakup, Spears fled to her home state of Louisiana, where she fell into a "coma." Timberlake, meanwhile, was "happily running around Hollywood," she wrote in The Woman in Me. A few months later, Timberlake's single "Cry Me a River" was released, smearing Spears and seemingly confirming that she had been unfaithful. In her memoir, Spears wrote that the song, and a music video featuring a woman who looked exactly like her, portrayed her as "the whore who broke the heart of America's Golden Boy."

Spears also wrote that the song was "a reminder that the American Golden Boy was a whore.

It is a story reinforced in a 2003 interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, in which the veteran journalist asked Spears, " You broke his heart and did things that caused him great pain and suffering. Spears wrote in her book that she felt "exploited" by Sawyer, her father Jamie, and her management team.

In response to "Cry Me a River," Spears released her own song "Everytime," in which she acknowledged her contribution to her divorce from Timberlake. (Spears had a brief romance with actor Colin Farrell.)

Both Spears and Timberlake had brief flings with other celebrities. According to Access, Spears experienced a brief romance with actor Colin Farrell, writing in her memoir that they "had a two-week brawl" in 2002 after meeting through "a club promoter friend." The only word that comes to mind is "brawl. It was "a passionate tussle, like a street fight," she writes, and the two met shortly after she broke up with Timberlake. She writes, "Just as I had done before when I felt too attached to men, I tried in every way to convince myself that it was no big deal, that we were just having fun, or in this case, that I was vulnerable because I had not yet gotten over Justin." Spears later joined Pharrell at the premiere of the 2003 film "The Recruit," where he denied dating: "We're not dating. She's a sweet girl. We're not dating. Spears described Pharrell as "the cutest, hottest thing in the world" in her book about their passionate romance, according to "Entertainment Tonight.

Timberlake married actress Jessica Biel in 2012, while Spears was married to Jason Alexander for just 55 hours in 2004 and married Kevin Federline later that year with two sons. More recently, Spears married Sam Asgari in June 2022, and 14 months later, in August of this year, Asgari filed for divorce.
