Gwyneth Paltrow is furious over the "Nepo Baby" controversy.
Gwyneth Paltrow, never one to shy away from sharing her feelings, has opened up about the "nepo baby" criticism directed at those who allegedly benefit from nepotism, especially in the entertainment industry. (For example, Paltrow's two children, Apple and Moses, could be considered "nepo babies.")
The "nepo baby" controversy gained steam last year when New York Magazine published an article noting that many celebrities have parents, siblings, and other relatives in Hollywood, seemingly making it easier to give them a chance.
"There is such a nepo-baby culture now, such a judgment that exists around celebrity children," Paltrow said in an interview with The Guardian.
"But there's nothing wrong with doing or wanting to do the same things as your parents."Regarding her daughter Apple, Paltrow said, "I just want to be a kid and go to school and learn," adding, "No one would ever belittle a kid who says, 'I want to be a doctor like my dad and grandpa.'"
Paltrow said he is trying to protect Apple and his son Moses from being branded with the dreaded label. (Paltrow shares both Apple and Moses with his ex-boyfriend Chris Martin, the Coldplay frontman.") The truth is, if you grew up in a house with a lot of artists and people making art and music, that's what you know, just like if you grew up in a law house, the discussion around the table is about the nuances of whatever particular law your parents are practicing," she said She said. 'I think it's an ugly designation. I just want my children to always feel free to pursue what they want to do, no matter what anyone thinks or says."
