Eaton College May Compete in Prince George's Education

Since early summer, when the Crown Prince and Princess and their eldest son, Prince George, were spotted touring Eton College, William's alma mater, it has been assumed that George would enroll at Eton College when he becomes eligible (in September 2026, when he turns 13).

Now, however, there is a fellowship: Kate has been spotted at her alma mater, Marlborough College. While Eton is a boys' school, Marlborough is co-ed, and in addition to Kate, her younger siblings Pippa and James also attended the school, as did Princess Eugenie. If George enrolls at the Marlborough School, his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis could eventually join him. (All three currently attend the co-ed Lamoureux School together.)

"Princess Catherine was here [at Marlborough] the other day," a source told Richard Eden of the Daily Mail. 'It's the talk of the whole school.'

Welsh children attending Marlborough would be a break from royal tradition, just as William (and later Prince Harry) once defied conventional wisdom by attending Eton. William was the first senior royal to attend Eton, enrolling in 1995 at age 13. His father, King Charles, and grandfather, Prince Philip, attended Gordonstoun School in Scotland. William's mother, Princess Diana's brother and father also attended Eton.

While at Eton, William went to nearby Windsor Castle for Sunday lunch with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. The prince inherited his style from his royal grandmother, who intervened when William's parents' marriage dissolved in 1995," says royal historian Robert Lacey, according to People magazine. The 13-year-old prince had just begun boarding at Eton College, an elite school across the river from Windsor. Concerned about her grandson's mental state, the Queen invited William in when the Eton boys went home for the weekend.

"Marie Claire" previously reported that Kate was not in favor of sending George to Eton. A source close to the royal family told People, "Coming from a different background, she understands the importance of having family time." She did not grow up in an aristocratic environment where she could only see her children for a short time each day."

William and Kate are currently spending time with their children during the school half-term vacations. They plan to resume their royal duties on October 30, the same day the children return to school. 'The children seem very happy. 'A lot of it is the stability and normalcy that Kate brings. William loves that."
