Lupita Nyongo, wearing a crown made from a cow's shell

Lupita Nyongo has been doing interesting things with the top of her head since she decided to shave off her hair in May. Listen: the already perfect actress doesn't need to do anything extra. But it sure is fun. And on Saturday, October 21, she took her accessories to the next level. The newly single Oscar winner attended the GO Campaign Annual GO Gala in Los Angeles in an intricate headpiece covered in cow shells. She paired the ivory topper with a cream gown, diamond studs, and a glossy brick-red lip.

The cowrie family is found throughout the world, and its shells have different meanings in different cultures. Traditionally used as currency, cowrie shells symbolize wealth, femininity, and good fortune. Although the author of this piece has not yet been found (we hope!) ), it deserves a big, big round of applause. It appears that the artisan wove the tiny shells into a mesh hat with thick threads of silver and gold. The shells stop just above the 40-year-old woman's ears, creating an elegant eye line and a bowl-cut effect.

Before becoming a bald beauty, Nyong'o wore her hair in sister locks; in mid-April, she released a video of herself cutting her hair. Less than a month later, she declared that she had decided to shave it all off.

"Happy without hair!" she wrote, joking that her new look was part of her application to join Dora Milaje, a group of female warriors in the world of Black Panther. Actress Indira Varma commented, "With eyes and bones like yours, of course." [and actress Indira Varma commented.
