Prince William's amused reaction to learning that his home, Anmer Hall, is haunted.
It's half-term break for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, and the three are spending quality time with their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, at Anmer Hall, a beloved country house on the grounds of their Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
The Georgian mansion was a wedding gift from the late Queen Elizabeth to William and Kate in 2011, and, to his surprise, it is haunted, but William was not daunted when he learned of this, says paranormal historian Richard Felix.
"When the Prince and Princess of Wales moved to Anmer Hall, which is on the Sandringham estate, there was the ghost of a Catholic priest who lived there, who was hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason, Somehow he came back home," Felix said on a recent episode of Harrow's "A Right Royal Podcast." 'He was executed in York, but they actually heard him. And they've seen the ghost of a priest hanging around Anmer Hall. Before the Welsh couple moved in, they were warned about the ghost and I think Prince William commented, "What old hall doesn't have ghosts?" I said.
According to People, when talking about ghosts, Felix was apparently referring to Henry Walpole, a Jesuit priest who was executed for his faith in 1595. People reports, "Legend has it that after his death, he returned to his family's Ammer Hall home, where his spirit has been seen roaming the grounds."
The family of five often spends school breaks, holidays, and weekends at Ammer Hall, about 110 miles north of London. The Welsh family will return home to Adelaide Cottage in time for Halloween on October 31, although the ghostly stories about the land have surfaced just in time for the spooky season. Incidentally, George, Charlotte, and Louis are trick-or-treating, as are many children their age. In January of this year, "Hello" reported that London resident Jay Rutland shared a photo of the trio trick-or-treating last Halloween with Kate.
"For those who doubt how grounded William and Kate are, this is Kate and the kids knocking on our door for Halloween trick-or-treating in London," he captioned the photo, the magazine reported.
